About the Eberhart Point Overlook
Eberhart Point Overlook, located in Cedar Bluff, Alabama, is a popular tourist attraction along the scenic drive. Formerly known as Canyonland Park, this overlook offers stunning views of the canyon and the river below. Visitors can enjoy amenities such as restrooms, picnic tables, grills, and a bulletin board with useful information.
The overlook can be accessed via a concrete paved trail that is moderate in difficulty. For a more adventurous experience, visitors can take the dirt trail that leads down to the bottom of the canyon, where remnants of the old chairlift and concession building can be seen.
Hiking in the canyon is not recommended for small children or pets, as the trail is rugged and challenging. Kayakers also frequent the waters around Eberhart Point, but only experienced individuals should attempt the Class III-VI rapids.
Visitors are advised to come prepared with plenty of water, sturdy hiking shoes, and a first aid kit, as cell phone reception is limited in the canyon. Camping is not allowed due to the risk of flash flooding.
For those looking for an easier hike, the Beaver Pond Trail or the Canyon Mouth Park Trail are recommended alternatives. The trail at Eberhart Point offers a unique and adventurous experience for outdoor enthusiasts.
Reviews of Eberhart Point Overlook
"This place has some unique history! Formally known as Canyon Land, circa 1970, was an amusement park and attraction with a sky lift that would take you to the bottom of the Canyon. Trail access beside sign or walk around gate to access road/ trail. This trail is steep and has loose gravel and some washout but very doable if you take your time going down and back up. Beautiful views and can see remnants of the old lift bases and concession building at bottom. I would not recommend for small children just because of the steep decline and there are Lookout points behind the bench area that can be dangerous for youngsters. Good shoes with grip is a must. Take a few drinks with you and just take your time out and back. We spent about 4hrs here..mostly exploring and enjoying the scenery. It takes maybe 30min. to reach the bottom if you head straight down the trail. Bama Mike on YouTube has a video on this place which includes info./ history of the trail and you can see where to go."
"We checked out a bunch of overlook areas, and this was by far the best. Pictures can’t show the true experience, you have to see it in person. Truly stunning view."
"Beautiful views, well-kept trail, and a great selection of swimming hole all for the low low price of free."
"We didn't do the hike but it looks attention. The overlook was easy to get to and the view was really spectacular, especially from the lower part which has less obstruction."
