About the Vet Center
The Vet Center located at 2311 Ohio Avenue in Parkersburg, West Virginia, is a local government office that provides counseling and outreach services to Veterans, service members, and their families. This institution is part of a network of Vet Centers across the US and its territories, with three new centers and six satellite locations set to open soon.
The Vet Center offers a wide range of social and psychological services, including professional counseling for individuals transitioning from military to civilian life or dealing with traumatic events experienced during their service, such as military sexual trauma. Services include individual, group, marriage, and family counseling, as well as referrals to other VA or community benefits and services. The staff at the Vet Center, many of whom are Veterans themselves, are experienced in addressing issues related to war, loss, grief, and trauma.
If you are a Veteran, service member, or family member in need of support, the Vet Center is here to help in a confidential, non-medical setting at no cost. Services include counseling for depression, PTSD, and the effects of military sexual trauma, as well as connections to additional support within the VA and community. The center also operates 83 Mobile Vet Centers that provide outreach and counseling services to individuals in communities without easy access to existing services.
For immediate assistance, a free, confidential call center is available 24/7 at 1-877-927-8387, where Veterans, service members, and their families can discuss their military experiences and get connected to their nearest Vet Center. In FY 2023, over 115,000 individuals received readjustment counseling at Vet Centers, with teams engaging with over 162,000 people through outreach activities.
The Vet Center is a valuable resource for those in crisis or experiencing thoughts of suicide, providing support and connections to additional resources. For more information, visit VeteransCrisisLine.net or contact the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at 810 Vermont Avenue, NW in Washington DC.
