"I don't like how I was told they couldn't help me because I refused to be put on medication. I was also told even if they prescribe me medication, I didn't have to take it if I didnt want to.but to get treatment at Marshall Psychiatry you have to be put on medication. I found a great place at Cabell Huntington Hospital Counseling Center which don't force you to be on medication."
"Marshall Psych in my second psychiatrist office. I have found nothing but disappointment here, and I think it’s symptomatic of how the place is operated. I recently got a letter stating I would be removed from practice if I miss another appointment in 24 hours or less notice, as I’ve missed two already. You might think that this was two appointments in a row, or in just a year’s time But they weren’t. It was two appointments since I’ve been with the practice, I’ve been with them for 3 years. Every 3 months is how often I’m required to be seen. This is a mental health facility. This is a mental health facility that doesn’t offer Telehealth anymore, like when I started going, making it less accessible. They don’t offer text message reminders, like other mental health advocates do. They don’t offer online appointment scheduling, like other mental health advocates do. They don’t offer ease in appointments, but I’ve been going since the pandemic so I will not judge on this for now. All of this, and they will still penalize you for being mentally unwell and missing an appointment. I was not listened to at my last appointment because I missed an appointment once. I had grievances with my medication regimen, and instead of listening, they put me clean on a medication that I had a known interaction with, that helped nothing but sent me spiraling for months. And I protested the change. It went unheard. I understand that I am not mentally well some times, but I also understand my own body and the drugs that interact with it, and I wasn’t talking about controlled substances. I’ve never had an addiction problem. But they refused to hear me. I’ve begged me therapist to find me a new practice that actually listens because this place has only increased my anxiety and has made it even more difficult for me to advocate for myself. I like the idea of what you’re doing. But you could be doing it way, way better."
"Made a little progress for four or five months until my psychotherapist accused me of rehearsing my answers during my last session. I should have left right there and then after that act of unprofessionalism. It's people like him that's why there is so much reluctance to seek help for mental health."
"It took a long time to get our appointment, but it was worth the wait. The staff is very nice and Dr. D makes us feel respected and cared for. He makes us feel that we are part of the process and values our input. He listens and asks the right questions. He was there when we needed him and I can't thank him enough for that."
