Reviews of Riley House Museum
"Newly renovated with very friendly and professional staff. A must visit with a small group or schedule a private tour with ten or more. Call and tour the museum, it would be a memorible experience."
"Loved going on the bus tour. Loved the historical facts. Can't wait for the house to be restored for touring. Interesting architecture design for that time period. The hosting staff were great."
"I visited the John G. Riley Center & Museum for a project I’m doing for my public history course, and I’m so glad I did. Admission is $5 for adults and includes a guided tour of the John G. Riley house, as well as the Smokey Hollow Commemorative Park. Our guide, Hope was wonderful. We explored a ‘pre-exhibit’ in the welcome centre called ‘Lest We Forget: The Passage from Africa to Slavery in America’ that gave a comprehensive context for how and why Black people ended up in the Tallahassee area, and included elements of West African cultures and stories. We then toured the main house and the newly finished Smokey Hollow Commemorative Park, which was very very lovely. The house is about to undergo a comprehensive renovation and I look forward to returning once that is finished. I think it will make the tour even better. Regardless, this house, John G. Riley, and the Smokey Hollow neighbourhood are important parts of Tallahassee’s history. I highly recommend paying a visit."
"What a wonderful spot! We learned so much! The staff is so great and enthusiastic!!! We loved it! We will definitely recommend this museum to everyone that is visiting Tallahassee and wants to learn real history! Things that were never taught to us in school! I was glad to share this with my family! Keep up the good work!"
"The Mr. Riley figure was life like. The history behind the land and Mr. Riley was very interesting. We were escorted by a young lady from the FAMU New Student Orientation team and she did an outstanding job in presenting the facts of the home and Mr. Riley."
