Panhandle Pioneer Settlement
About the Business
The Panhandle Pioneer Settlement in Blountstown, Florida is a living-history museum dedicated to educating the public on the value of community, commitment, and innovation. With a collection of 18 historical buildings from the 1820s to the 1940s, visitors can explore authentic artifacts and objects that showcase life in the past. Founded in 1989 by Willard and Linda Smith, the institution hosts various events and festivals throughout the year, as well as educational classes on traditional skills and crafts. The Settlement also offers rental options for day use and upcoming wood working shops. Volunteers are welcome to help with events and activities, with opportunities for students to earn Bright Futures volunteer hours. The General Store at the Settlement offers unique gifts, including handcrafted knives shaped like duck heads. "Lots of beautiful old fashioned things to see, always friendly volunteers and well kept grounds"
"I love this place! I have been coming every chance I get since it opened. I have brought my kids, and now my grandkids. They love the classes in the old ways, the stories of the old days, and just the peaceful beauty of the Settlement."
"Amazing place! Loved it! We arrived after official tour times had ended but got all the info we needed and were welcomed to walk around and enjoy this very unique and special place. Thank you Patti❤️ If you’re in the area, this is a ‘don’t miss’ experience."
"The staff was super nice. Unfortunately we didn't have time to do a guided tour, it was a rainy monday and so most of the buildings were closed. We walked the site and will plan to return some day when they have a black smith and others in the buildings."
"This is an awesome fun outing . We was here for Keepers of the old ways event. Lots of great knowledge shared. The buildings are all in good shape now. Love the fact that the log cabins are mostly staffed by family relationship. Lots of pride & care given. So worth the visit."
