The Labyrinth of Rome 402 Civic Center Drive, Rome, GA 30161
About the Business
The Labyrinth of Rome, located at 402 Civic Center Drive in Rome, Georgia, is a unique landmark and tourist attraction with a rich history. Originally built by the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s as an erosion control pond, it was later used as an amphitheater by folk artists in the 60’s and 70’s for poetry readings and musical performances.
Established by the late Ed Baker in collaboration with local government, this labyrinth is a special corner of Rome’s historic Jackson Hill. Made up of 5,490 bricks weighing a total of 24,705 pounds, the labyrinth offers visitors a peaceful and introspective experience.
Unlike a maze, a labyrinth has a single path designed to help individuals focus and find their true selves. The journey through this labyrinth is a bit more challenging, with different levels representing the ups and downs of life. As you walk the path, turning towards and away from the center, trust that it will lead you to a place of peace and self-discovery.
Walking the labyrinth is a form of meditation, allowing you to connect with Mother Earth and find inner peace. Take your time, breathe deeply, and enjoy the journey as you explore this unique and spiritual space in the heart of Rome.

"Great free fun! Whether you like to meditate, see a piece of history, or just have fun following the Labyrinths, this is the place for you. Wonderful outing for the entire family - two-legged and four-legged. Photos coming later. (Please be responsible and keep your pet on a leash, and make sure to clean up after them. You also don't want to allow them in the Labyrinths, just in case they dig or need to relieve themselves. Walking a Labyrinth is a human-only activity. Thank you for having consideration for others.)"
"Nice place to visit! Who would have thought Rome, GA had a labrynith? Well, they do and it's an awesome way to finish a day trip to Rome!"
"Definitely unique. There's a little shop on the premises that sells handmade items. There isn't easy access for walking down, though."
"What a peaceful and quiet spot! I enjoyed visiting. This is the first labyrinth I've ever visited and didn't know what to expect. I learned from the sign they have posted that labyrinths are not mazes (I always thought they were the same thing). There's only one path in a labyrinth, so you can't go the wrong way. Following the labyrinth's path to the center is supposed to help you center yourself. I tried it and it did feel meditative. Overall a nice place to stop, take some photos, explore, and enjoy being outside. There's a gravel parking lot adjacent to the labyrinth."
