"We are from Chattanooga and recently discovered the beautiful town of Dalton, GA. With this past Saturday's visit, we decided to give the Dalton Freight Depot a visit. We arrived at 4:45pm (15 minutes before closing). The only individual we encountered greeted us not with a "welcome to the Freight Depot", but with an irritated "just so you know, we close at 5". I imagine this is not quite the ambassador one would desire for their town. We understood that this was 15 minutes before closing time, but this quaint visitor center took us around 5 minutes to tour and visit the brochure kiosk. There isn't a whole lot to see at this historic depot, but a more professional and courteous introduction would have been far more effective than what we received. As we exited, my four-year-old daughter turned around and thanked him and said goodbye, without a single word in response from the gentleman working the desk. We will certainly not be coming back to the Freight Depot, but it's a good thing that we already love the town of Dalton and will be returning to enjoy the many delightful stores, restaurants and sights that Dalton, GA has to offer despite the young man that seems to very much dislike where he is employed."
"The Dalton Freight Depot and Museum was closed. We waited for trains to come but none did."
"It was closed. Loved looking at the quilts that were part of an exhibit through the windows. Come back when its open. We live near Chattanooga."
"Feel nostalgic sitting in platform and watching trains going by. Beautiful Welcome Center which showcases lovely displays of what Dalton, GA was known for."
"Was a cool depot. They had a monitor for the train schedule. Saw 2 trains pass while we were there. The lady in the visitors center was very helpful for things to do in the area. They also had a small museum on tufting blankets and such that was quite interesting. The start of the carpet industry. The restrooms were very clean. They had a display and explained about the Sherman Necktie. What they did when he had the rails pulled up to stop the trains."
