"A great exhibit that does a good job at tackling all parts of our county's history, the good and bad. Very interactive and great displays. My favorite was the video interviewing some of the first integrated students during the civil rights movement. It was a little surreal to know some of the worst of our county, and seeing it wasn't that long ago. I also loved the display of old analog film and photos of different locations."
"A very well done museum. It was a great place to go on a cold or rainy day. I had videos as well as displays progressing through the history of Cherokee County."
"When we visited, they were having a promotion and gave our visit for free which was nice. It isn't a very large museum but all encompassing. It should only take around an hour or so. The information was interactive with hands-on, listening and visual implements. The one thing I suggested to the staff is a place to sit down in Stage 1 or 2 as there is a theater in stage 3. It's a lot of standing especially for the elderly."
"We had an excellent family visit to the Cherokee County History Center this morning. The staff was friendly and offered our children each age appropriate scavenger hunts that kept them on the lookout for facts. The layout is excellent with multiple galleries that lead you through the fascinating history of Cherokee County. For example there was both a copper and asbestos mine in Cherokee County, not just gold and chickens! The video presentation on segregation and information on the native Cherokee people was thought provoking. I highly recommend visiting if you are from Cherokee or just visiting the area."
"Tired of museums that are full of “DO NOT TOUCH” signs? Don’t want to go to a sterile, cold, boring place and be bored to tears? Me neither! That’s why I instantly LOVED the history center. The Cherokee County History Center is chock full of local history, interactive exhibits, “PLEASE TOUCH” signs, and SIX galleries! Featuring high and low tech interactions, guests of all ages will be sure to enjoy a day of learning. From the big displays to the minor details, I was absolutely blown away. My only regret is not bringing home my own Salty Dog! I will absolutely be back!"
