"The nursing team needs training on smiling and being positive. When you work in a rehab, patients are beaten down enough and need encouragement. The staff needs to be uplifting to patients and caregivers. Herlinda was the only charge nurse who raised her head to say hello and she was so kind to us!! She encouraged my brother when he walked through the hall. I give her five stars along with another brunette nurse that was amazing to our family and mary Margaret in the pharmacy, who was outstanding. But for the most part, I was shocked at the way the nurses ignored the patients and acted like they couldn’t be bothered. If it weren’t for our family members, my brothers bed would’ve never been changed and he would’ve never been cleaned up. We were told that there were no aides at the facility to change linens. When I would go out and ask for sheets and towels, it was like I was asking for the world. I would be reluctant to send a loved one to this facility for rehab. I’m in healthcare and I understand that it is hard to find staff, but facilities should not except patients if they don’t have the staff to provide proper care for them."
"My partner was in Encompass for 2 weeks, and I visited every day. She was mostly pleased with her stay, aside from a few gripes. I review them based on my observations, with the serious disappointment being the discharge procedure. First, personnel: No one was pleasant or unpleasant. No one interacted with me in any way whatsoever, but simply ignored my presence. I can't complain about that. It was odd that there was a semi-strict security procedure at admission, but that the desk was unattended as much as it was attended. These things would cause me to give 4 stars, since 5 stars is hard to achieve, with 4 stars being the result of giving the benefit of the doubt, while a 3-star may be more proper ------------ Then there was DISCHARGE day. When I came to pick her up, she had a paperwork package and thought she was discharged awaiting me to take her and her belongings to the car. The Director of Admissions / Quality (he gave both titles) escorted her to the entrance while interviewing her, and while I was taking all her belongings to the car. Of course, I had to retrieve the car from the parking lot and bring it to the entrance so that she wouldn't have to walk all that way, as the walk to the entrance was the longest walk she had taken by far since her back surgery. That's when we were admonished by someone who showed up at the reception desk. Sternly admonished at first, coinciding with a lecture on safety and Encompass procedures and that she should have been in a wheelchair, and that patients are NOT discharged via the entrance...and how she could have been seriously injured. She made her disapproval very clear, and she was quite upset and agitated and ready to take action against someone...and that she needed to determine the guilty party, be it my partner or myself. After we informed her that her own Director of Admissions / Quality her my partner escorted her personally while interviewing her about her stay, the agitated person at the desk disappeared. When she returned, she acted like all was well and said nothing at all except goodbye. I understand mistakes can happen, but by the person in charge of quality and auditing the staff??? But it's only one person, so a 1-star deduction for sure OBVIOUSLY, the person responsible for quality put my partner at physical risk and violated "very strict" procedures. This makes me think that my partners gripes about one of the nurses assistants treating her rough and flinging her legs onto the bed, while others were gentle may have merit....that her gripes that it would take 30-45 minutes for someone to show up after calling for a nurse may have merit. This make my initial benefit of the doubt a very generous and most likely inaccurate assessment. Therefore, my pre-discharge base should be 3-star at best, and the discharge incident should be a minimum 1-star deduction, leaving a very generous 2-star rating, when 1-star rating may actually be the proper rating."
"Encompass Health,Sewickley is a top notch rehabilitation facility on all levels of the health care spectrum. Administration, Rehabilitation services, nursing staff and case management all work together to achieve the best outcomes for the patient. I have entrusted the care of my family member to Encompass Health on several occasions and they provide consistent quality care for the patient. Thank you for continuing to keep the patient first with your high standards of care in these trying times of healthcare."
"Went to visit my friend that came here yesterday for rehabilitation, everyone was so friendly and nice! Waited a little bit while my friend was finishing up with her therapy and got to visit with her for awhile. Very clean and sanitary environment. Pics4yinz ~ Roscoe"
"I was so disappointed in the care that my loved one received at Encompass Sewickley. The nursing care was poor and their knowledge of both basic and complex medical issues was limited. From catheter insertion to use of a life vest, they were unable to safely care for him. The nurses, when we could find them, were often unapproachable and aloof. The OT was the same. There was never a charge nurse or nurse coordinator available for questions, both in person and on the phone. It’s very unsettling to not have access to information about your loved one when they are sick. Ultimately, their poor nursing care led to an undetected infection that nearly killed my father. This is not a place for neurological or medically complex patients. Their staff is too lacking in knowledge, compassion and communication."
