Reviews of Snellville Performing Arts & Main Street Theatre
"What a charming space! I recently attended a children’s theatre production of Willy Wonka Jr. and it was great! Production value was fantastic, especially for a community theatre, truly impressive. The one thing I would have loved to see, to really make the experience GREAT, would be a better utilization of time: Starting over 20 minutes late is just not okay. I can see a 5 minute hold for a few stragglers, but it’s unfair to the people who got there on time to go beyond that. Additionally, there was way too much time spent asking patrons for money. I fully understand that it’s a community theatre, and it is reliant on patronage and donations to continue great productions like the one I saw. But the additional 20 minutes of intermission spent requesting donations was a little excessive. The goal could have been accomplished in a quick 5 minute blurb."
"We went this past weekend to see Willy Wonka Jr. The show itself was outstanding. All of the kids did a wonderful job and you could tell they were well rehearsed. What could make this show even better would be starting on time and a shorter intermission. Unless there is some sort of emergency, there is no reason for a show not to start on time. Intermission was 20 minutes which was fine, but then followed by another 20 minute speech from the director. My guess is that the majority of the audience members are friends and families of the performers, and I'm sure they already know everything that was brought up in the speech. Short, concise introduction at the beginning is all that is needed."
"The kids seem to enjoy the program and I always enjoy watching them perform. However as an audience member I feel my time is not always valued. Often, late start times and 30-40 minute intermissions including long speeches detract from the shows and the kids. The mission and passion are obvious at this theatre but I wish there was a more concerted effort to value the time of the people who are spending their weekends supporting the arts."
"As a proud auntie and audience member, I'm thrilled that such an amazing program exists for children of all ages to learn about the ins and outs of theater. It's wonderful to see age-appropriate adaptations of popular shows that the kiddos want to be a part of! The social element is really lovely, too, for both the children and the adults. Where there's room for improvement: time management, both at the show's start and during intermission. Waiting for late arrivals before beginning the show serves as an insult to everyone else who was on time. An additional speech and full history of the program during intermission would be more appropriate in video format for the SPA website. The intermission speech, if it continues, really needs to be edited for time: bullet points only, requests for support, and thanks to the audience. Five minutes or less. All in all, SPA is a fantastic program and I'm happy to continue to show my support."
"We love SPA! The staff & directors are all amazing. It truly is a safe, inclusive place for young people to learn about & participate in theatre. My son (10, 5th grade, homeschooled) has acted in two junior productions & is about to start rehearsals for his third. These experiences are giving him so much more than just school can give. We are thankful to have found such a wonderful environment to allow children to grow & express themselves through performance arts! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!"
