"Very sad to say the Explorer I bought 2 years ago for $5k now needs a new transmission at a quoted cost of $4-6k. I had to replace a thermostat housing on it the first week I had it, which was easy. They wear out over time but since radiator fluid was pooled up in an obvious place, it must have been known about when I got it. To be fair, it may just be my typical bad luck and not the seller's fault, but $5k for two years of use is very very disappointing and damaging to my entire family as it was our only transportation."
