About the Bear Creek Nature Center
Bear Creek Nature Center is a private, non-profit environmental education facility located at 6300 Cochran Mill Road in Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia. Our mission is to spread the joy of nature and the outdoor world by teaching people of all ages in our community about our environment. We offer a wide range of environmental and wildlife sciences, including zoology, botany, and ecology.
Nestled in a rural, mixed hardwood forest just 20 minutes from the Hartsfield-Atlanta Airport, we are proud to be the only nature center in Georgia with a live native bat exhibit. Our resident animal ambassadors include exotic and non-releasable native reptiles, amphibians, and birds of prey. We also host three major annual events: Pollinator Day, Reptile Rally, and Bat Fest.
Support us by donating, becoming a member, or partnering with us. Our small campus includes a cabin with animal and science exhibits, a gift shop, a pond, picnic pavilion, boardwalk, outdoor bird of prey exhibit, native plant gardens, and hiking trails. Admission includes access to over 845 acres of trails during open hours, as well as indoor and outdoor nature experiences.
We are open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 11am-4pm, with special hours for events like BAT FEST. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for updates on dates and hours. Please note that we do not provide wildlife rehabilitation, but can provide resources for those in need. Call us at 770-306-0914 for more information.

Reviews of Bear Creek Nature Center
"We had an amazing time and the staff was highly educated on their animals and generous with their time and knowledge. They accommodated all ages, young and old. Animals looked very well cared for. Beautiful atmosphere."
"Always fun at the Pollinator Party! Learn about pollinators, their benefits, and how to protect them. They had face-painting, free posters, and pollinating plants. Food vendors and a silent auction! Even better than last year!"
"We had a nice time looking at and petting the animals here. They were super friendly and even took out the alligator for us for a little petting. It was rainy the day we went, so we didn't go on the trails, but we expect to the next time we come. Price was good without the trails and would be great with them."
"I found this place by pure luck & I could not be happier that I did! The one mile loop is a great trail, not too intense & the scenery is beautiful. I also loved the fact that they have an information cabin and educational wildlife including bats, a gator, owls & several other creatures! This is the perfect place to take your kiddos or just to simply feel like a kid again. I enjoyed talking with the staff they are all super sweet, full of knowledge and make you feel right at home. Thank you ladies for a wonderful day! I can’t wait for my next visit."
"Took a group out to see the sunset moon rise this was the last supermoon of the year it seems like it was also the strawberry moon. The hike was an easy 1.5 miles to the peak very easy to see signs even in the night. Of course we'd recommend a flashlight if you're going to see the moon rises there are some holes and pitfall areas around the giant rock peaks that could be hazardous walking in the darkness. Great place to relax under the night sky to also Stargaze."
