"We stayed six nights at Claytor Lake site D25 in a 36’ 5th wheel. The campground is easy to access from I-81, which explains why they have so many 1 night stays in the campground. Checking in at the gate was easy and the paved roads were easy to navigate. The entrance station gave good directions and there are plenty of signs. Each site was well marked too. The turn into D Loop is a right hand turn with a small entrance requiring longer rigs to swing wide into the oncoming traffic lane to make the turn. In the loop the roads are gravel and in good shape. Overhead tree limbs were not a problem for a tall rig on the roads or at the sites. Our site was pretty level but there are many sites that require leveling blocks, especially for longer campers. Some have considerable slope front to back and side-to-side. Sites have a picnic table, fire ring with grill and lantern pole. There was plenty of room to unhook and park your tow vehicle on the site. The water and 30 amp connection was located about mid way on the site and worked well. I found the water to taste funky and preferred to not use it for drinking. I was able to receive 35 OTA TV channels with my antenna. With AT&T I got 1-2 bars of signal and my wife got 2 bars with Ting (Verizon). We saw the park ranger patrol the loop several times during our stay. The camp host is constantly moving around the campsites cleaning up and updating reservation tags. He and his wife are some of the busiest hosts I’ve seen, very nice people too. Firewood is sold for $8 a bundle; I’ve often bought better firewood for less. The D Loop dump site is situated on the side of the road so that you’re blocking half the road when you dump. The only threaded water connection available near the dump site to flush your tank is labeled potable water, which I think is, less than desirable. I don’t want drinking water from a spigot people use to flush their tanks. There is a book lending library by the bath house. When I made reservations we paid $40 a night but on the info board in the campground I see them listed as $47 a night now. You also pay a $5 reservation fee and tax. If you need something there’s a Wal-Mart in Dublin. There are hiking/bicycle trails in the park. Overall we were pleased with our stay and would return to Claytor Lake if in the area again."
"Great campground. Lots of spots and most have good shade during the day. The lake beach is very nice. Get there early, it gets busy by noon. Highly recommend getting a group together, book 3-4 sites next to each other EARLY. We booked Memorial weekend for Labor Day weekend. Boat rentals available too. Did that too. Kids had a blast!"
"Just here for the night, but it's a short walk to the lake, it's quiet and well maintained. The facilities are immaculate, staff is friendly. Nice level pull through sites. Since we are leaving in the morning we just stayed hooked up. Nice relaxing place."
"We stopped here for the night on our way south. Such a nice, clean and spacious campground! Sites are big and well spaced apart. Bathhouse was new and super clean! Nice walking trails and access to the lake. We were very impressed and will return!"
"The camping spots were really nice, and they had fireflies come out at dusk! The showers and bathrooms worked well and were clean. I liked how they had someone to check us in late. My only real compliment is that there were a lot of other guests being very loud late into the night which is very disrespectful to other campers."
