"We posted on Summit Connections and built a crew of 8 with 3 from Las Vegas, 3 from Signal Mountain, TN and 2 of us from NYC. The group met on Zoom leading up to meeting at New River Gorge the day before embarking on the New River Experience. We were paired with units from across the Midwest. Total of 36 plus guides. The guides were outstanding, professional and made the trip fun. Everyone got along. Scouts made the food and it was great. Adults cooked the steak dinner in the final night before the more advanced whitewater. The side trips to the waterfall and the ghost town were excellent. For high adventure this is pure pleasure as much relaxing as exhilarating. On either side of the trip we enjoyed all the activities in base camp plus the Zip line. The Scouts were able to complete Whitewater and Kayaking MB but only because we prepared in advance and brought a counselor. Summit was not set up to support it as the guides are private contractors. However, we shared the MB requirements with them and they jumped in to help at each step. I enjoyed this more than Philmont and Northern Tier !"
"Went here for the 2023 National Scout Jamboree. Made memories that will last a lifetime. If you get the opportunity to attend this camp in any capacity, you will not be disappointed!"
"This camp allows way too many vehicles to be moving around on the road. 80 plus percent of the vehicles have only a single occupant and no cargo whatsoever. I likeen it to joy riding. The facilities and things at camp are well maintained. However, it is not gender friendly for having both adult male and females and youth male females in the same campsites."
"If you're looking for a Scouting adventure, this is the place from whitewater rafting, climbing, ATV treks, Zip line, mountain bike treks and much more. Also a great place to take your family on a getaway."
"We just back from the New River Experience. Highly recommend this high adventure! We covered 45+ miles on the river. The water was flowing around 5200 cubic feet, so lots of fun taking the duckies through the white water. We went over class 1-4 rapids in them. Each breakfast and dinner was hot, cooked by the scouts. Lunch was sandwiches and sides. We slept in the camps right along the river. Some nights in Jambo tents, others in canvas tents with cots provided and some nights under the stars in the ducky. Bring plenty of sun screen! We had to reapply at lunch because we had 90% sun shine while on the water. We had two side hikes, make sure you go on them. Our scout guides made it a really great, memorable trip. The last day we hit the class 5 rapids in eight people rafts. Can't wait to go back."
