"Came here to visit the Hawks Nest Dam, but to my surprise, you can't drive up to the trail. But if you're up to it, a twenty minute hike is mostly flat to trail #3. Then, down a small path to the river bed. Wear comfortable shoe's, as some areas are rocky."
"Beautiful place but was very busy this morning! Caught a few fish but should be good really soon!"
"A place that you must see! Some of the best fishing and Hiking there is."
"One of the best places to hike. If you like it quiet with little to no other's at one time. The river runs alongside the railroad so another bonus if you enjoy watching and or seeing the trains. Several to many large rocks for climbing with enuff variation to start off the beginner's to much more experienced. I actually ment a professional climber on the way on one of my many hikes who had all good props to say of the climbs able to be made there. Excellent fishing spots along the entire terrain weather you stay in the Cotton Hill location or continue on to Gauley Bridge part of the river. Even though there is not many people at one time I've never come across disrespectful or disruptive people. For the most always friendly. Many different areas to take in the views that I feel are all breathtaking in there own and in all seasons as nothing stays the same you can always find a view not seen. Along w plenty of off trail spots to camp for the day or overnight at leisure. If your unsure of the rules regulations and camping rights just look up the state of the park or woods u plan to visit. Understandable guide lines usually available. If your that much into hiking climbing hopefully your trash always goes with you ,and all fire of any sort camp, cigs, pipes what ever your situation may be is well attended and not left unattended to cause harm to the people animal's or forest. Almost forgot the river on the trails is a great place to cool off on the hot days. They all have there own warnings just read the plenty of signs posted, swim at your own risk but safely, and if you have the time or don't mind take an extra trash bag and take some of the disrespect and trash to a dumpster weather it be trash or just aluminum cans to make a buck for doing it however you want to look at it a little from all of us goes a long way. Not preaching at all if u choose not that's on you. There r something s some like to do that's free of charge camp, hike, fish. If you go more than once or still going your enjoying it or even if to party it seems to be a spot that works for you. Help by taking your own and if you can some left by others. W.VIRGINIA is a beautiful state along w many others to boot."
