"A group of friends and I and my dog made the drive up to Tawney Farm from Ohio for a weekend camping trip, and we had a wonderful time! I was drawn to this spot as it provides you with seclusion and privacy unlike other overpopulated commercialized campgrounds, and we felt safe and secure during our stay. The owners, Susan and James, were very kind and went out of their way to help us and show us some of the beautiful spots to check out in the area. They provide a lot of amenities you can’t always get at campsites like drinking / hot water, a shower, portajohns, etc. We forgot to bring paddles for our kayaks, and we were able to borrow some of theirs that they provide onsite for guests to borrow. We stayed at campsite 8, which is about a 20 minute hike up the mountain. It is definitely worth the extra effort, but I do recommend packing as light as possible if you choose this site! It’s pretty steep, but there are flat areas along the way to stop and rest at. Being at the top of the mountain provided us with beautiful views and scenery, especially at night – we loved seeing shooting stars while we sat by the campfire! I’d absolutely recommend this place to any nature lovers who enjoy camping and appreciate the great outdoors. I was truly impressed with this spot and thankful for how welcoming Susan and James were to my friends and I. We even got to feed their mini horse, Peanut, a couple of apples! I hope to come back again in the future, maybe for Gauley season! Thank you again for showing us a great time!"
"We had site 7 and it was a little rough to get up as the “path” was overgrown and had logs over the trail but for rustic camping that’s expected! I do think it should be considered more of a foot trail over a path. It did thunderstorm one night we were there so we left at 9pm to stay in a hotel (left our tent and everything there because we were coming back) and came back the next day at 6 after sight seeing and the owner was pretty rude and said she was up all night wondering where we went (she had our phone number if it was really that big of a deal) and said she assumed we left so she sold our campsite to someone else (again, even though our stuff was still there and we paid for the weekend) They ended up relocating the other people since our stuff was there so it all ended up well in the end but still such an unusual experience i’ve never had to tell a campground i’ve stayed at where i’m going and when i’ll return. (and i’ve stayed at plenty of private campgrounds) Also advertised on their website as a fire pit but it’s more of a tiny raised city fire table that didn’t fit the wood they provided. Wood was also a pain in the butt to hike up the trail, they give it to you in a wheel barrow but it’s up to you to get it up the mountain. they had a little sling that helped but some constructive criticism for them would be to have the firewood at the campsite but clearly they don’t like to go hike up to the site if they won’t even go look to see if our stuff is still there before booking it to someone else."
"Highly recommend!! This is a great campground with decent amenities for camping; shower, restrooms, dishwashing station, and even a stage for the busy season. The hosts are helpful and knowledgeable."
"A beautiful and peaceful place to take a break from the outside world. We were passing through town and pleasantly found Tawney Farms online. The owners Susan and James are amazing hosts. They made us feel very welcomed during our stay in the Nut House, which by the way super comfy and adorable. We stayed with our one year old. She loved the sheep and the herding chihuahua, Flow. Thank for your hospitality!"
"Stayed two nights on their beautiful property. Clean bathroom & shower facility. The property is quiet, safe, and sheltered from the city. Summersville stores aren't a far drive however. One left turn away from their place is the most beautiful waterfall and swimming/kayaking place. I would highly recommend anyone stay here. The owners are the nicest people, full of interesting stories and helpful tips! Staying here is no mistake, can't wait for my next trip!"
