Reviews of Buckeye Furnace State Memorial
"Stopped into the store, was given good information and some history by the friendly ladies that live on the grounds. Walked to the furnace area on our own to explore."
"The Fall Festival (first Saturday in October) at Buckeye is really fun. In addition to the history available at the furnace and store, there was a craft fair, food trucks, crafts and games for the kids, contests and auctions, and a petting zoo. Admission is free!"
"A great piece of history showing what an intact iron furnace looks like and information about what each area was used for. There is a picnic area but no restrooms or any other amenities."
"Not a very big area but interesting. A tremendous amount of history concerning Iron that was produced in the 19th Century."
"We have a few of the remains of old furnaces around the Vinton and Jackson county area. Most are just rock or rock walls from the furnace structure. This one however is in the best condition I have ever seen. You can see how the furnace worked like the wheel they walked on is massive and made from wood. You can read different facts about this place and how much iron they made. For example one fact I never knew why pig iron is called pig iron, and its explained here. When the metal cooled and hardend the ingots called pigs are broken off the sow which is the runner. Pig iron."
