Located on 1402 Jim Hamilton Boulevard in Columbia, South Carolina, the Hunter-Gatherer Brewery/Taproom is a popular institution offering a unique combination of craft beers and delicious food. Established in 1995 by Kevin Varner, it was the first micro-brewery in Columbia, specializing in English and American-style ales. With Varner's experience overseas, the Hunter-Gatherer Brewery has become a well-known staple in the Midlands.
In January 2018, the brewery opened its second location at the historic Curtiss-Wright Hangar. After a successful restoration, the Hunter-Gatherer Brewery/Taproom now serves a variety of craft beers and specialty foods in a welcoming and laid-back atmosphere. Whether you're looking to enjoy a cold beer with friends or indulge in some tasty dishes, this institution is the perfect spot for a memorable dining experience.

"Had another great evening at this location. Had some great pizzas and even got to see a few planes land. Not so busy this day but they were hosting a private event. So if you need a location for private events check them out. They have the space for it."
"An amazing dining experience. We really enjoyed the food, the service, and the ambiance of this location we had the pizza which is their specialty and it was very good, cooked to perfection. I thought the price was fair for all that you received. I highly recommend a visit."

"Gluten free pizza crust is really good however they burned the bottom of it. :-Also the cheese on the pizza could be better quality, they could use whole milk rmozzarella instead of whatever they’ve used because it doesn’t taste very good. Then the pizza would be amazing. Was there in early Sept and the flies are kind of a problem-they swarmed our food as soon as we got it. Annoying to say the least. Maybe get more fans to blow them away. Other than that it’s a cool atmosphere- the menu is limited to salads, appetizers, and pizza but it’s great for hanging out with friends after work and grabbing a drink."
"What a hidden gem in Columbia, I've heard so many wonderful things about Hunter Gatherer Brewery! So finally we decided to give them a try. Parking is no issue, you can dine inside and outside. They do have a rooftop but it was closed at the time. Greeted by friendly staff and we were seated promptly. Very clean and plenty room for accommodating large parties. Bing dog friendly is a huge bonus for some! Also its in a great location, outside of the city. The menu has enough for all to choose from. Our order was taken in a timely manner from our friendly host. I was actually surprised on how well the food tasted! My spouse got the meatball sub, he stated it was tasty and he would order it again. Great place to meet up with friends, relax and chill in a laid back environment."
