The Nina Simone Childhood Home, located at 30 East Livingston Street in Tryon, North Carolina, is a significant historic site that played a crucial role in shaping the iconic singer's early years. Born Eunice Waymon in 1933, Nina Simone developed her passion for music and her strong sense of social activism in this humble three-room clapboard house.
Despite facing racial discrimination in the Jim Crow-segregated South, Simone's talent and determination led her to become a legendary figure in the music industry. Her distinctive voice and powerful lyrics continue to resonate with audiences around the world.
In 2017, the fate of Simone's childhood home was forever changed when a group of New York City-based African American artists purchased the property with the intention of preserving and restoring it. The National Trust, along with the Nina Simone Project, World Monuments Fund, and North Carolina African American Heritage Commission, are working together to ensure that this historic site remains a symbol of Simone's legacy for future generations.
Through their collective artistic vision, the artists aim to transform Simone's home into a space that reflects her dynamic and complex legacy. Your support is crucial in protecting and preserving this important piece of American history. Join us in honoring Nina Simone's legacy and ensuring that her childhood home remains a place of inspiration for years to come.

"It deserves to earn a five star rating yet from what can be seen by my photos and what was told to me by local folks, there is a lack of funds. Supposedly there is a non-profit organization to assist with the restorations but there was no information on location. This home needs to be saved and made into a museum in memory of a great lady! Birthplace of Nina Simone (Eunice Waymon) Please review my photos taken on December 15, 2023"
"Definitely felt the spirit of the great Nina Simone. You can take pictures from the windows."
"It was remarkable to see the childhood home of such an iconic super star and history advocate. I felt graced to be there. Thank you"
"This place is on a very weird part of town. The house needs attention. Spider webs everywhere. Was afraid of getting a spider bite. roof of house on shambles. We came from florida hoping to see the inside but was closed. Grass overgrown. Whoever maintains the property needs to pay attention to this legacy"
