Reviews of Dr. Joseph Boland & Associates
"I went to see Dr Boland and after 40 minutes of trying to sum up 3 years of marital problems and the stress of living with a narcissistic spouse, Dr Bolands answer was," I probably shouldn't say this.....but if you lost some weight.....all your problems would go away." It has taken me almost two years to get over that unbelievable statement. I went there with marital problems....and the fact that ANY trained "Dr" would tell a person, let alone a patient this, is unimaginable to me. Do not go to this office if you are having any kind of self confidence or self esteem issues. In fact, just don't go to this office. Find someone who will be positive and uplifting."
"We were referred to this practice by our pediatrician due to my 5 year old's struggles with ADHD. We were hoping to get our child some help with navigating the emotional dysregulation that is part of ADHD (and many other neurodivergent disorders). However, the therapist we saw ignored our child the entirety of our 2 appointments (not sure how to teach them skills if you hardly even acknowledge their presence and I'm not sure why he was expected to be there if he was not going to be part of the session) and then proceeded to list off a variety of ways to implement "punishments" for the ADHD behaviors. These punishments included but were not limited to: standing in a corner with arms outstretched, wall sits, and WITHHOLDING MEALS. If this is how ADHD is "treated" at this facility, I can only imagine how autistic children or other disorders on this same spectrum are addressed. Our pediatrician removed this facility from their referral list after hearing about our experience and I would never recommend this practice to anyone. Edit in response to the Owner's response: Our therapist seemed shocked that our child had so many responsibilities at home and that we had consequences in place for behaviors we consider unacceptable. (As if it was automatically assumed we just let our child run wild and do whatever they want) Which is precisely why "behavior problems" is not what we sought out therapy for. We were also told that ADHD is something the majority of children out grow. Current research has proven the exact opposite. (which speaks to the quality of the "research" being used to support the therapy choices at this facility) We have since started therapy with another, much more highly and more positively recommended therapist. Our child has made leaps and bounds of progress with primarily parent training and active coaching (not having our child sit in a chair, staring at a wall the entire time). The sessions that involved only teaching us strategies did not require our child to be present. For the sessions that have involved the child some but mostly worked with us, our child was given activities to do rather than being scolded for touching anything in the room except a single rock. I have shared my experience with our child's doctor and many other adults (parents, nonparents, neurotypical parents, and other neurodivergent parents), all were shocked by what we experienced. I think it is unfortunate and very telling that the owner of this facility has a hard time hearing difficult feedback."
"Thank you, thank you, and thank you! What a complete change in my son’s behavior and performance in school. Any parent knows we weren’t handed a “maintenance manual” for children when they were born. Yes, we follow suggestions from all kinds of people we respect (religious leaders, books, parents, school administrators), but even then we needed additional guidance. Dr. Boland explained where we were falling short in simple, easy to understand terms, and the difference was nothing less than amazing!"
"I've never had an issue with getting counseling, but after my experience from this office and the services my daughter received I left unimpressed and her experience was worthless. I can't believe my insurance had to be billed for this... talking about horrible horrible experience!. My daughter unlike most being a teenager just had some small issues but still important to me so I asked our pediatrician to recommend a counselor...big mistake, I was referred to this office. Inconsistent appointments after previous scheduled, non chalant counselor, I think because my daughter wasn't falling to pieces she didn't get the help she needed, but I'm so glad she really wasn't struggling because this would've been a disaster. If you truly have mental issues DO NOT GO HERE find a office that cares about your counseling sessions, treatment, your progress and overall well being, I hate that this establishment was able to bill me for NOTHING must be nice!!"
"Dr. Boland does not seem to actually listen to his patients. After 2 visits for my daughter he seem more interested in trying to change my parenting skills and practices than actually talking to my daughter, which he never did. Not to mention his methods and practices for parenting are completely against anything anyone in child psychology would advise. Be advised it’s extreme hard to get in contact with the office to cancel/reschedule any appointments, but it wouldn’t matter anyway their going to charge you for rescheduling and cancelling even if you call 47 hours ahead of time. None of the practices here at this office work well with anyone who actually has a life to work around. Do yourself a favor and find someone who actually wants to help your family/children."
