Reviews of Banbury Cross Farm Carolina Dogs / American Dingos
"I have one Carolina Dog from Jane and the process from the time of inquiry about a puppy, to the down deposit, and receiving the puppy was a great experience. Jane is truly passionate about her puppies and she does not just allow anyone to have a puppy. She makes sure it will be a good fit and in the best interest of the pups, as any good breeder should do. I highly recommend Banbury Cross Farms!"
"I contacted them regarding a puppy for our family. Jane replied once with some questions about our home situation to which I replied. I never heard back so I emailed her again and no response. We decided we will find a Carolina elsewhere."
"5 years ago I contacted Jane to reserve a Carolina Dog pup. After putting a down payment on a pup from the next litter I wasn't contacted again. I sent an email to Jane and never got a response. I ended up getting a Carolina Dog by accident through adopting from a friend that rescued him as a stray. It all worked out in the end for the best, but I never got anything from the money I spent with Jane. I received an email from Jane today asking to use me as a business reference. That's what prompted this review."
"We have 2 Carolina dogs from Jane, awesome amazing breed."
"We bought our Carolina Dog from Banbury Cross Farm six years ago and we love him dearly. We had been on the waiting list for a female puppy for several months when we received the long awaited call: our puppy was ready to be picked up. So we drove from New York all the way to Aiken. A long ride, but worth it so the puppy wouldn’t have to be shipped by airplane. Jane and her husband were very gracious hosts. On the morning of our departure we finally met our little dog. To our great surprise it was not a female as promised but a male. He was so cute and so we settled with a male dog. Who can reject a little puppy after a 14 hour drive. He was not a normal male though, his testicles had not descended. When we mentioned this we were told that at 9 weeks old this is normal and it would still happen later on. Well, it didn’t and we had to have the testicles surgically removed later. The puppy had a skin allergy and an intestinal infection which resolved only after several months of treatment. There are other problems. Our dog doesn’t see well, he sometimes doesn’t recognize us from 6 or 8 yards away. He has an airway stenosis which causes him to suffer from sleep apnea. The biggest problem is however his spinal issue which makes him limp on and off and causes intense neurological pain at times. We spent several thousand dollars having him examined to understand the underlying cause to be able to help him, unfortunately without success. We have owned a number of other dogs in the past but none of them had so many health issues. Despite several inquiries we never received the paperwork for our dog. Would his pedigree have revealed strong inbreeding thus explaining some of the health issues? All our attempts to get back into contact with Jane Gunnell failed. Our dog is now 6 years old and we have made peace with the situation. We cannot directly blame the breeder for some of the health issues - other than a better hygiene in the kennel might have prevented the intestinal and skin infections. More seriously, however, is the fact that we were given a cryptorchid male instead of a female and that we never received the breeding documents. We believe that a serious and honest breeder would have acted more responsibly. For $800 per puppy one would expect this."
