The Barksdale House Inn

"We have been staying at the Barksdale on and off for over 20 years. Magical experience. The Barksdale is perfectly located where you can walk to everything. The building is three hundred years old and they have done a beautiful job keeping it up. The rooms are absolutely stunning and the breakfast is by far the best B&B breakfast in all of Charleston. But what makes this place special is the staff. The Assistant Manager Parker is absolutely incredible and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable. He is perfect for that position, his troubleshooting abilities are handled calmly and professionally. Bernadette "B" and Brenda will serve you your breakfast and are so incredibly friendly and efficient. Donna is very sweet and helpful as well. And then there's Aleeyah... I cannot say enough good things about this wonderful woman. She not only makes you feel like you are family , but makes you feel that the Barksdale is truly your home. I would hire her in 2 seconds. She is amazing, and I never saw her once stop working. She consistently goes above and beyond. She's is the perfect person to greet you when you arrive! The only thing that I would recommend to management is putting larger tvs in the room for old folks who can't see a twenty two inch!"

"Charming inn nestled in an old house with a wonderful staff and right in the heart of Charleston. The room was comfy and clean, and it had a very homey feeling. The breakfast was delicious and added to the overall experience."

"I personally didn't like the location. So close (if visiting University, then it's a WONDERFUL LOCATION) to the University and well hidden drive, not marked too well. Long walk on cobblestones to our sons wedding destination. Uber best option after evening gatherings... especially for those of us with older bones:) Otherwise, LOVED IT! Bright Yellow was the best color for this beautiful B&B."

"I'll start off by saying that the staff is fantastic. Friendly, helpful and really wanting to make your stay memorable. The breakfast is also very good, but I would have liked to see a bit more variety including local specialties. Where the inn really fails is with the rooms. While the beds are comfortable, air conditioning is strong and the rooms are clean, the inn crosses the line between quaint and needing repair. Our room, room 4, had missing electrical plates, holes in the ceiling due to a missing smoke detector (which is now mounted over the door) and lack of electricity on 1 side of the room. There is a review on Google from 4 months ago that highlights other issues in the bathroom, and none of them have been addressed. The inn has potential, but I think that being owned by a restaurant hospitality group rather than a person or family has led to a lot of deferred maintenance. I do not think that I would stay here again."
