Reviews of South Paws Dog Resort
"They are always willing to go the extra mile to make sure my dog, Pebbles has a safe and secure stay..."
"2019 post: Our dog Ella loves being groomed at South Paws and being boarded there. They take excellent care of our 4 legged family member. The shampoo they use smells so good. Updated 3/20: South Paws is truly the best! Our dog loves being boarded there when we have to take trips."
"We DO NOT RECOMMEND! We boarded our HEALTHY, 2 year old Dane for 3 nights over Memorial Day weekend (Our vet's boarding facilities were full, & we had to find a new place). Dropped off Fri. morning, & was to pick up Mon. at 4:30. At 4:07pm, South Paws called saying that Bodhi had large amounts of swelling & open, bleeding wounds on all four legs. He didn't want to stand up to go outside, but they JUST NOTICED this & claimed he had been 'fine this morning at turn out'. We get there, and ask to see Bodhi immediately. They took us to the 'suite' room up front, that they had moved him to after we called. He was laying on a blanket in this room & could barely stand, even when he saw us. He was openly bleeding from all four, swollen legs, lethargic, weak & had no life in his eyes. The male at the front desk was the RUDEST person, with ZERO sympathy or explanation as to how in the world our dog ended up in this state. We stepped out front & called the Police & Animal Control to report animal neglect & cruelty. The officer took photos but said in these instances the only thing they could do is supply us with a report, in case we wanted to take it to civil court. (Which is beyond ridiculous, but a complaint for another day). We took him to the vet & they almost had to put him on a stretcher to take him inside. The vet said he was severely dehydrated & had lost 17lbs since his last vet visit. They put him on IV fluids, pain medicine, steroids & antibiotics, while doing blood work, & laser therapy on his swollen joints to help ease the pain. He was hospitalized for two days, with me visiting to try & entice him to eat. The vet said his immune system was attacking his own platelets. It was an autoimmune response that was likely triggered by stress of being boarded, discomfort from his wounds (the mat rubbing at his elbows/pressure points and rubbing them raw) & that caused him to not feel well enough to eat/drink. He came home for a week, & we did everything we could to help him heal, but had to go back to the vet on June 10th. The next day, we received a call saying he was not going to recover, & we had to make the choice to say goodbye as peacefully as we could manage. It was a BRUTAL experience. We are very disappointed that it appeared they did NOTHING. Did not even call our emergency contact, who would have been there in a heartbeat. Our dog had never been sick, always cared for and loved."
"If I could give 0 stars I would. Edit: I decided to make the review after talking to my coworker who said that her dog had also gotten bit while being boarded there. Made me worry because people are going through the same things I did and had no warnings. Yes maybe I should have gone to see the video footage, but if y'all had taken good care of my dog, you would have noticed that she has severe separation anxiety and gets overly excited when she sees her people. So obviously she would be excited and jump on my friend. Also the reason I decided to not go and look at the footage is because I knew I wouldn't be able to see the inside on her back leg. Its just not possible. Y'all are lucky all I did was leave a review. I had my dog boarded here for a week in June of 2021. I thought everything was fine until I brought her home and realized she was gushing blood from the inside of her back leg from what looked like a bite from another dog. I freak out as another other dog parent would and try to do everything in my power to make it stop bleeding but nothing worked. Ended up having to drive all the way to savannah at night and spend hours at an emergency vet. While I was there the vet confirmed that it was in fact a dog bite and that it had been there for multiple days. I informed south paws about the situation and they refused to say that it happened while under their care and did nothing to help with expenses and didn’t even apologize. Later on I hear from multiple other people who have brought their dogs to get boarded at south paws say they also have had the same horror story with this place. I know my situation isn’t a one in a million and that they have this happen often. Please if you love your dog and care about their safety avoid bringing them to this place, it is not worth the price or the vet bills."
"We have been using South Paws for several months now with our 8 month old Golden doodle and we couldn’t be happier. We have used them for doggie day care, boarding, training and grooming, and all of our experiences have been great! This is a well-run business and the value you receive for the price is excellent."
