"I just completed a 3 day (voluntary) stay at this facility due to a personal crisis I was having. The 4 stars are strictly for the facility and staff; Jenna, Justin, Keith, Pablo, just to name a few because there were many more including the doctor, nurses, councilors, and case workers...all who were amazing, patient, compassionate, and kind. Jenna (a health tech.) was the most down to earth and who I felt most comfortable with staff wise. The last case worker I spoke with (can't recall her name) before my release truly understood the assignment, and I felt she understood my situation. When struggling with mental health issues, understanding is paramount...above anything else. It's hard for those of us who struggle with mental illness to find that in every day life. The facility was very clean and welcoming, considering it lacks a lot of comforts of home, and the food was pleasantly delicious considering it was hospital food. I give 4 out of 5 stars because of "policy." We were not allowed access to our phones. For me, this was a huge issue as I had to leave my mother, who has dementia (stage 4/5) alone, and pets, including a blind, special needs dog. I oversee my mother's finances, pay her bills, grocery shop (online ordering) and take care of many things she is no longer able to do herself. My stay created additional stress as a result, especially not having access to my phone to keep track of her spending, accounts, bills, and budget. My life didn't get put on hold while I was there, and I did not have any back up arrangements in place (my addimitance was unexpected even though voluntary). This caused me great distress at times which interfered with my treatment and progress. I would entertain the idea of adjusting this policy for patients to have access to their phones for a limited time per day ,so that they have the abilties to; #1, keep an eye on their accounts and/or pay bills they need to pay so they're not late which could incur late fees, loss of phone service, repossession of car, cancelation of auto insurance, etc., #2, to still feel connected with friends, family, and the outside world in which we have to go back in to...the world doesn't simply stop, disappear, or put on hold while we're there. And #3, to be able to make whatever arrangements and plans neccessary for others and/or pets they care for that they had to unexpectedly leave behind for treatment. This, in and of itself, caused me great, unnecessary distress. These 3 issues can cause anyone unnecessary stress during treatment, and can prolong healing, progress, and recovery. Just myopinion and I hope it counts for something. I would definitely come back to this facility for treatment if I needed it and will be setting up my PHP (Partial Hospital Program treatment) with them...which is intense, out-patient treatment 3 days a week at the facility."
"Really nice facility, with professional staff & medical team who went outta their way on few occasions to help. Excellent meals with good quality, & I've never felt safer. Looking forward to hopefully seeing ya'll again everybody! Keep up the good work!!"
"My very first impression was horrific! The woman at the front desk, obviously has control issues and gets a thrill out of making people feel even worse about their situation. I completely understand patient confidently, I truly do. I work in the medical field as well. But the way she interacted with us, who were calm and understanding, is absolutely disgusting. I had to walk away and let my husband handle the situation. She is rude, disrespectful, disgusting, cold and callous. I was told by Summerville Medical, that my child was being transported to Live Oak and when I told her that she said “well how do you know she’s here? She may be somewhere else.” And then said “every patient has a phone in their room that they can use to call family, and if she hasn’t called you then it’s safe to say she doesn’t want to talk to you.” Very unprofessional!!! If this is the way that a simple receptionist acts, how can anyone feel confident that their loved one, who is suffering mentally and emotionally, are being cared for properly?!?!? And sure, go ahead and tell me to call a patient advocate phone number to rectify the situation. I’m certain I’ll have to leave a message and wait till eternity for anyone to call back."
"After experiencing one of the hardest things I could imagine I truly Thank God Live Oak Mental Health and Wellness was the facility we were sent to. The staff was so understanding, patient and kind. I can only speak on my own experience but if you are sent here please be open minded so you can recieve the care you need. I thank all of the staff that helped in the care of my loved one. Keep up the great work."
