Reviews of Spine Institute of the Carolinas
"I do not recommend. My mom was shammed into buying a back brace. Basically Dr boat write fitted her and charged her without a proper check out. He's a scam and so is the whole institution. She is still getting bills for going twice. Beware. You can get a back brace anywhere for 10% of the cost."
"Avoid at all costs. This place a legitimate scam. They aren't concerned with actual treatment, their job is simply to push an extremely marked up 'back brace' that can be acquired online for about 1/4 of what they charge. During my appointment, I told them several times I was uncomfortable with the back brace being pushed on me in general to the point I broke down in tears. Did that stop them? it did not. The great hustle continued. When I went to leave, they demanded hundreds of dollars (that was never discussed) I offered to give them the back brace back, as again I did not see the need or advantage. Their response after consulting with Ruben was 'he thinks you should have it'. This is your place if you like a high pressure, sales type environment. What a joke this place is. Shame on every employee and 'doctors' for their mistreatment of patients in need. Lastly, I challenge ANYONE from the Spine Institute to challenge these facts. Your day will come, scum. See you in court."
"From the Caregiver's perspective of surgery for your loved one: - If you are contemplating surgery; one of the most important aspects of this journey is your caregiver. The preparation, the driver to the big day, the wait at the hospital and most importantly the recovery. My loved one chose Dr. Reubin and the Spine Institute based on reputation, suggestions from others who chose HIM and of course reviews; just like this one! - I can tell you that the caregiving aspect of his surgery was enough for me to plan while my daughter was in Europe for several weeks and gave me anxiety just thinking about what was ahead. What (my) responsibilities would include and how would I know if something didn’t seem right?! - Pre Surgery visits- include your caregiver! Ask the questions; their are no “dumb” questions if you don’t know! Both Dr. Reubin and his team (especially Colleen, his right hand ) provided all the answers, they are assertive and compassionate. Dr. Reubin is very confident of his work and your outcome but not in a cocky way. They have everything printed for you to reflect on ahead of time and most of ALL, their telephone numbers on hand for aftercare questions. Trust me; you will need them; don’t be afraid to call! You should get a potty chair (Amazon) that fits over your toilet with rails and can be moved as needed. They will give you a walker. We also ordered a cane from Amazon as well. These come in handy! - Day or surgery- an early morning drive to Hilton Head Hospital (don’t worry, there won’t be an traffic). Easy parking and signage so you will find your way. First stop is the pre-pre opt where I was allowed to be with him, ask questions and get that last “good luck” kiss. I was allowed to join in the process all the way to the “pre-op” as they rolled him away. They will give you a card with the “case” number and their phone as well. They have a nice and comfortable lounge with beverages, snacks and a window for the waiting area of the caregiver. Only surgery caregivers that day will be in this area. Also a telephone for update calls from the staff every hour. Also in this lounge is a TV showing updates of each phase of the surgery using the assigned case number. This is SO helpful so if you want to get fresh air or grab coffee; you know you have time and if you aren’t in the lounge; they call your cell with updates! —-After surgery hospital stay- once your loved one has recovered; you will meet them on the dedicated floor in the hospital to a private room and an entire wing filled with nothing but Spine Institute staff and other patients. Their are only about 10 beds so care and attention is 100%. I was SO impressed with the staff; after a few hours I elected to go home and rest; knowing my loved one was fine and in GREAT care! You should also! —At home care was SO much easier than I had anticipated. I used a medium size basket and a notebook. Basket for all the meds and such and notebook for after care instructions, plus contact numbers also. You need these 2 things! Plus, I found Alexa so helpful to set alarms as a reminder for medication! We also have an adjustable base bed which also was a great asset for helping to get out of bed and sit up. This lasted in our case, only a few days as he did amazing and was walking, eating and off pain meds after only a week! I also planned ahead meals from (The Kitchen) on Lady's Island with soft, bland food to start. What a lifesaver! They will also give you the prescriptions to fill a few days ahead thank goodness. I personally always hate getting them the day of while trying to get your loved one home, comfortable and then have to leave to pick up meds?! They have your back on this! - We were assigned a home health care provider who mainly work with The Spine Institute and have a great communication with Dr Reubin and staff. Yes! They are ALL on one page with your care! Both a nurse and physical therapist will call you a few days after surgery and immediately schedule visits to come to YOU! Thank you Spine Institute and Dr Reubin!"
"From check in to check out for the last year, the staff of Dr. Boatright's office has been friendly, very organized and helpful. They were kind and understanding of the pain I was in with a pinched nerve. Scheduling appointments for surgery and followups was no problem, and in fact they made it easy. I'd like to thank the entire staff, but especially Erin, Tina, and Brandy. I highly recommend Dr. Boatright and his staff at the Spine Institute."
"The Spine Institute of the Carolinas is an extraordinary medical practice in every way! Dr. Boatright is not only a highly skilled and well respected surgeon, he is kind and compassionate. As a patient in pain, I felt from the very start that Dr. Boatright and his staff were invested in my recovery. They were my advocates navigating insurance issues, and kept me calm and as comfortable as possible when COVID delayed my surgery. Tina, Brandi, and Erin are a delight to deal with. They each go the extra mile to maintain communication, and always make sure that you’re taken care of. Responsive, professional, and caring; everything that you could wish for in a medical office. Pia, the DPN, called every Sunday for weeks post-surgery to check in on my pain levels, and to see if I had any concerns. Outstanding patient care! Because of Dr. Boatright’s excellent care and incredible skill, I am pain free, and have been since a week post-surgery. The prospect of spine surgery can be daunting, yet I felt completely confident with Dr. Boatright as my surgeon. He always takes the time to listen, explain, and reassure. His credentials are impressive, and that alone would be enough to pick him as your surgeon, but his “bedside manner” is what sets him apart."
