Reviews of Prisma Health Cancer Institute–Grove Commons
"Everyone at cancer is great. Please thanks to Dr. Thomas for going above and beyond for his patients. I'm so thankful to have him and his team care for me all these years."
"Absolutely positively the best place to go if you are ever unfortunately diagnosed with breast cancer like I was in Jan 2022...fabulous docs and the most caring nurses and office staff!!!"
"This regards PRISMA’s Institute for Translational Oncology Research (ITOR) which administers drug trials for cancer patients that have exhausted standard treatment options. My wife Barbara died recently from small bowel cancer while being a patient of ITOR’s Heather Bowers NP and Dr. Ki Chung (Barb’s obituary is online). Bowers is the primary patient contact for ITOR’s ~4 oncologists, including Chung. Dr. Chung relied heavily Ms. Bowers, rarely seeing Barb and spending only a few minutes with her when he did. We assumed that Ms. Bowers kept Dr. Chung well informed about Barb but this was untrue. When Dr. Chung accepted Barb as his patient she was in good shape from maintaining an active lifestyle that included biking 60+ miles/week. Barb started with an immunotherapy trial and experienced progressive GI discomfort. We met with Ms. Bowers twice and both times she assured Barb that some GI discomfort from the immunotherapy is not unusual. A week later Barb began shaking uncontrollably. At the ER she was diagnosed with E. coli sepsis caused by ulcerative colitis and spent a week in hospital. This ended ITOR for Barb since she never stabilized. The day after Barb died Dr. Chung phoned me with his condolences, saying he was surprised because he thought she was in such good shape. I described our meetings with Bowers. He said he did not know about them and that, “colitis is a well known risk factor with immunotherapy,” and that he would talk to Bowers. Barb was a pediatric physical therapist and highly experienced in complex medical cases. We talked a lot as events unfolded. Clearly Ms. Bowers’ summary dismissals of Barb’s suffering were a terrible mistake. I think that Dr. Chung’s minimalist approach to patient interaction is also to blame, and points to a fundamental problem with ITOR’s patient care process... (this review re-posted here due to PRISMA webpage change-outs)."
"I have been going for regular visits since September of 2017. And they been the sweetest and most caring group of medical professionals that I think each person was handpicked by God to be in that group. If Cancer enters your life it becomes a new door in your life that you have to walk through, that facility is what you want and will need to to help you walk through it and everyone behind that door is there for you to help you and care for you in so many ways. I could go on and on and give examples of their kindness and their care."
"The young ladies there were simply amazing. They made me feel at ease. The one issue I had was taken care of. I would advise anyone to utilze this location."
