Reviews of Happy Sandman Pottery
"Terrible experience The environment in the studio is the worst and it is difficult to breathe properly due to the moldy smell. The teacher doesn't teach you anything at all, he just gives you materials and the students have to practice on their own, he is always late to class and never keeps any of his promises. There are only three workspaces, but since six students are paid per class, the remaining three waste time waiting for the other three to do everything. Although it was promoted on Facebook, it is completely different from the reality, and when someone tells the truth in a Facebook comment, he deletes it all. The working environment is terrible, but more than anything, I hope that he will teach his students properly in the future and not use them as a means of making money."
"Overall, not great experience for the cost. First class didn’t start on time and the class stood outside in a dark parking lot for 10+ minutes before the owner unlocked and opened the studio door. We were given very little instruction or assistance. The advertisement for the class lists different pottery technique but we were only given vague wheel demos and nothing else. The class was left on its own 90% of the time, guessing at what to do. The studio is cluttered and unorganized, making it hard to find the tools you need at any given time. The participants were expected to set up and take down/clean, which cut into the limited time we actually had to work on the wheel. I had 4ish pieces, which the owner fired wrong. Because of this I was unable to properly glaze, leaving me with rough, ugly pieces that can’t be used for their intended purposes. It took months for me to get my pieces returned to me and I left feeling like it was a huge waste of my time and money. The owner is friendly, and is definitely an artist but not a businessman."
"I cannot with a good & fair conscience recommend these classes. Except for the initial demo, you will receive little to no instruction. The teacher is friendly but absent in the back for the majority of the class sessions. I actually learned more from another student helping me. Poor communication as I was told to come back at a certain time to glaze my projects. No one would return calls to confirm and when I drove over there, it was locked. You will only get a receipt when you sign up for the class - No emailed instructions and no take home instructions to help. Bring your own apron as there is none available. The classes are set up in buildings that aren’t kept up by the landlord. The parking lot is fun to drive if you enjoy large. potholes but make sure you check your tires. The studio is cluttered and to even sit down, you needed to move boxes to do so. I created 3 projects and I don’t even want to go back to collect them because I was so frustrated with the experience. Owner is friendly but the main thing I learned in class was that he has a band on the side when I wish I could’ve learned more about actual pottery. Might be a fun class for some if you’d like to give it a try but was not for me."
"Had a great time and such a safe place to learn. Dragged my husband there but he left thanking me for making him come. Will def be back!"
"Happy is a very kind, educated teacher. As well as encouraging and helpful. I really enjoyed his classes and the different styles of pottery he had us make. Definitely a good time"
