"I would never put my child here. The employees at Richard Kay across the street bear witness to one of the employees constantly shouting at the kids and getting in their faces. I bore witness just now while looking for a vehicle across the street. I couldn't make out what she said but i could hear the volume of her voice across traffic. Abhorrent behavior!"
"My son has been attending the Sunshine House of Anderson for about a year now. Have there been ups and downs? Absolutely. When I've had a concern, they address it. When they have a concern, they bring it to me. I've seen some recent changes that only make me happier that we decided to send our son here. Children, especially daycare age ones, are hard. I appreciate all the very hard work that the staff does. Bottom line? I feel confident that he is being well cared for from the moment I drop him off until I pick him up."
"My daughter began attending SSHouse of Anderson when she was 5 months old. We loved it at first. She will be 3 in June and the experience over the last year has been a complete nightmare. The staff turnover rate is ridiculous. The teachers they do have are either stretched very thin or should not be teaching at all. I’ve heard one particular teacher consistently complain that the children give her anxiety, but she’s allowed to run a class of 2-3 years. They consistently close classes. There’s no structure, lack of accountability on their behalf, and no lesson plan. In the beginning, we knew what the kids were learning and had great communication. Over the last year the consistency has completely dwindled. The children are not being watched closely and many are labeled as “bad” or “problematic” when the problem is that the teachers are not proactive and do not have the skill set to control their classrooms. Please explain to me how a 2.5 year old has been able to get out of the classroom 4 times in one day and it is somehow the child’s fault? Do not send your child here! I was their biggest supporter for the first 1.5 years my daughter attended but I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone, especially minority children. Cultural differences play a major part in child development and this program does not take that into consideration. There are two amazing teachers there right now (Phyllis and Bre) who I hope can help get the program back to what it used to be."
"Overall an okay experience while my son attended. His short term teacher was phenomenal but the turnover rate and lack of staff was a concern. There was also an instance where my son was left to sleep in a boppy (when in the care of someone who wasn’t normally his teacher). The director was very kind and understanding when I expressed my concerns. Not a phenomenal daycare but not a bad one either. I think if they could retain staff they’d be great!"
"We were happy before multiple staff and management changes. There has been a high turn over rate. Little to no communication of staffing changes in my child's room. The communication that was sent out was done after the fact. I would go to drop my child off to a teacher I did not know and they didn't know me or my baby. Multiple times I have gone to pickup and they have combined different age groups to get staff off the clock at the expense of jeopardizing child safety. Children almost 2 years old do not need to be combined with infants that can not crawl or sit up. This was a main safety concern that happened on multiple occasions. It took me getting very upset before anything was done. They consider any warm body qualified to be a teacher whether they are train or not. There are several teachers here I adore and trust; however, the situations management puts them in, sets them up for failure. We have had missed bottles, not cleaned after a dirty diaper, and the little ones having to be confined to their cribs for their safety to not get trampled by bigger kids. Unfortunately, a lot of the great teachers have left. I do not feel the safety and wellbeing of the children is a priority at this center after we have had multiple instances. Their priority is to not have to pay overtime. With the astronomical costs of tuition, they should be able to pay for quality staff and adequately staff each age group."
