"Best decision I ever made. My son is special needs and requires additional resources for his education. The previous public school said that Mevers couldn't provide my child with the same things/disciplines he was getting at GCP. I even felt like they were trying to scare me from making the switch to Mevers. Mevers did so much more for my kid than any public school could. I felt my child was treated with respect and as an individual person. Although my child occasionally has outbursts not once did Mevers ask me to come get my child from school because he was disruptive or emotional. I can not say the same for my experience with GCP as they called me almost everyday to come pick up my child. As a result he fell farther and father behind. At the beginning of this school year my 2nd grader couldn't read or write... Not even on a kindergarten level. We are finishing the school year strong with Mevers and my child can now read and write. Each day he gets faster and remembers more."
"I have had it with this school!!! I am so beyond frustrated. My son made stratight "A's" last year and the first part of this year. Octobers report card reflected 5 classes dropping from a A down to a B. His teacher writes the students behavior in their agenda most everyday. Out of 52 days from an all "A" report card to the October report card she marked each day with being a Great Day, A Good Day and only 3 talkative days. Since October I have contacted his teacher, all admin at Mevers with no results. 3 weeks ago I contacted Chuck Nusinov, State Director of the Carolinas Charter Schools USA. Still no results or answers. They talk the talk but don't walk the walk. Communication is EXTREMELY POOR in this school."
"I do not recommend this school. We were so excited when our child was accepted for kindergarten for this school year. That excitement quickly disappeared for many reasons. First, the school lacks proper communication with parents. You will get more information from the parent Facebook page than you will from the school, seriously. Second, the school does not follow the proper safety procedures. The small front office that separates you from the school hallways is not used to check people in. They will let you into the school for signing in, sometimes they won't even ask for your ID, just your name. Twice, I wasn't even made to sign in. If you do get signed in, you get to keep your sticker when you leave and they do not check you out. It's terrifying how easily visitors can come and go through the school. At the start of the school year, there were 23 children in our child's kindergarten class. What we didn't know prior to school starting was that the teacher would not have an assistant. All public schools that we know of have an assistant for the kindergarten teachers. This was a huge concern for us. I spent time volunteering and noticed that the teacher spent more time trying to keep her students on task and behaving, rather than teaching. The "group" learning plan that Mever's advertises just doesn't work in that environment. Our child was regressing with reading and we felt that he would be much further in reading had he had the proper instruction. He is very advanced in mathematics and he was not being challenged at all. The teacher did not have the time and the resources to give him advanced work. He didn't get to do any coding and all he could tell us every day is that they "watched a book on the smart board" or that ABC mouse taught him about reading. Also, they dont have a library and we just found that odd and disappointing. The special areas at this school are typical, but public schools in the area offer so much more. The school boasted a B rating for the first year, but failed to give an explanation on what that means. We took it upon ourselves to compare the test scores to other nearby elementary schools using the SC Report Cards website and what we found was that Mever's scores were practically identical to a 5/10 (on Great Schools website) school in our area. Their scores are average for our state and in our eyes nothing to boast about. We toured 3 other public schools and we were BLOWN AWAY with how much better the schools were, safety wise and academically. We also didn't like that the older kids had lunch that overlapped with the kindergarteners. I would not have known that if I hadn't had lunch with our child one day. The older kids were rowdy and allowed to roam all around the cafeteria while eating. Teachers did not bat an eye. I witnessed an older boy run into a 2nd grade girl. Literally, he ran into her and no one said anything to him about running. It was like a zoo. We had some other concerns, but this is the just of it. All in all, we were not impressed and decided to transfer to another school over Winter Break. Our son's class actually lost 4 other children since August. Obviously, we weren't the only ones unhappy with the school."
"This school has lack of communication as well as lack of support for families.. I would never recommend this school to anyone and after this year our children will be going to a different school.. also if any family has a disabled child please please make sure the nurse is following Drs orders. Added note* for a public school you pay private school prices.. it's unreal how expensive it is and to think our children get free lunch and that doesn't consist of what the other kids eat. A cheese sandwich and milk. Needlraa to say they never get their milk.. I want my kids to be treated at school with dignity and pride and respect no matter what our financial background is.. please think twice about this school.. think about your children."
"I'm am so very impressed with school so far! Everyone that I have come in contact with, starting with the application process to dropping off my daughter for her first day of school today, has been a pleasure to work with. Everyone's communications skills are on point. Polite, kind, and professional. Great job so far! Looking forward to this school year."
