"I love their seeds and the artwork on their seed packets. I have usually seen them at the Philadelphia flower show but I happened to be up in the area of their store and decided to stop in. Very nice little shop, very helpful service. Thank you as always"
"I do not often leave reviews. But this time I'm upset enough to leave a negative review. I ordered 5 lb of Music steed garlic. Seed is supposed to be higher quantity than what you send to grocery store. But what I got is worse than what I got from a grocery store. Many garlics bulbs are moldy. Cloves are small too. About half way through, I decided to post a review and took a picture of some of the un-plantable cloves. I removed the skin so the moldy cloves are visible. I should have stuck with my usual online source. But I wanted to support local business since I leave in New York state. Not going back to Hudson valley seed company again. Update, The company sent replacement garlics that are much better. The modly garlic was a result of them using a new package that is not as airy for the 5 lb size. The replacement was 5 of 1 lb bags. This is a company that stood behind their products and one i can trust."
"I cannot recommend HV Seed Co. I was really excited to get my vegetable garden seeds from a local company this year, but I will be going back to Home Depot next year. Extremely poor germination in all 6 varieties purchased. I was finally able to get some started, but obviously delayed. Despite this, I tried to keep an open mind. Unfortunately, the tomatoes are barely growing…my volunteers from last year are 6ft tall, and I’m thankful I kept them or I wouldn’t have any tomatoes this year. And the “poblano” peppers I was most excited for are actually banana peppers. I am so disappointed and genuinely regret wasting my time, energy and money putting HV Seed Co seeds in my garden this year. EDIT: I reached out directly for resolutions, as requested in the business response. They apologized that I was "having such a hard time growing plants this year...." But I'm not having trouble growing plants this year, just THEIR plants. They blamed poor germination on the weather. Again, I've only had poor germination with THEIR seeds, not others this year. I also germinate indoors and transplant, successfully for years, so the weather is irrelevant in regards to germination. They also failed to address the mislabeled seeds at all. I was offered store credit...which I will not ever use, obviously. Seems like the issues are my fault and the weather's fault, according to HV Seed Co, but certainly not theirs."
"**2/20/2023 update. The company did reach out and went above and beyond expectation to address the situation. I didn't want or expect anything as originally this was my error, I just wanted to get across that customer service could be a tad more empathetic with their approach. I do want to say that these would make amazing wedding favors (and I am highly planning on reordering for my wedding n bulk later in the year).** 5+ stars for the spectacular and vibrant art covers for the seeds. Colors are vibrant! I love them! But 2 stars for customer service. I ordered 13 seed packets as gifts for a few friends and was so sad when I realized that one of the shishito seed packets purchased was not the art packet style. I reached out to their customer service (yes, I mistakenly purchased the non art version) and was told I'd be responsible for the return shipping and new shipping. I replied asking if it was possible to just purchase the art cover since I already had the seeds. The customer rep was very short/blunt and didn't provide any alternative solutions... just told me to reorder. The customer service could certainly be worked on. The difference in the art and non-art versions was a whole 50 cents ...and having to pay an extra $10+ to get the one art cover piece wouldn't be a reasonable cost for me. I know, again, entirely my mistake. I really wanted to support this local business and love their art concept... but they have less than desirable customer service."
"If you care about local, sustainable, and ethical farming, choose Hudson Valley Seed Company! We have a small homestead and have been ordering seeds from Hudson Valley Seed Company for years. They are deeply committed to protecting the diversity of crops which thrive in the New York and New England area. Their seeds have extremely high germination rates and we have been thrilled with the amount of produce we get out of our rocky, clay-filled Connecticut soil. Also, for those who like to "put food by," their catalog clearly states which varieties store well in a larder versus those that don't keep. We enjoy fresh parsnips, carrots, turnips and celery well into spring from the seeds we planted the previous year. And be sure to order the gorgeous art packs which support local artists!"
