"I rented a small 5 x 10 climate controlled unit when this was still just under Life Storage and it was pretty mediocre for the price. Teresa originally helped me and you will see her name a lot in the reviews because she pressured you to write one while you were sitting there filling out paperwork. Unit itself was ok, the door on the building had something wrong with it where it was very difficult to close so people would never close it properly and it remained that way the entire time I had the unit (couple months shy of a year). They also only allowed you to use one kind of lock so had to purchase one from them. I’ve had climate controlled units at different storage units all over the US and this was the first time I walked into a building in the summertime and it felt just as hot as it was outside. Where my issue really started was after they sold to Extra Space Storage. Originally I was paying $132 (total with insurance) for a 5 x 10...well shortly after they sold I got an email for my payment reminder and it was saying $220 was going to be owed. So of course I call immediately to find out why my payment would increase almost $100 and the answer I got was "well we sent a postcard and we can give it to you for $180." Well I received that mail probably a month after this phone call so I have no idea how that was helpful. At that time I was dealing with sick family and couldn't move out immediately so I had to pay the $50 increase for an additional 3 months. Thankfully my last month there was December before my total was going to increase to $190 in the New Year. I found another local storage facility that gave me a climate controlled 10 x 10 unit for the same price I was originally paying for the 5 x 10...and they gave me a free month as part of a promotion. AND they let you use any lock you want and personally drive you to the unit to make sure you are satisfied with it. Talk about feeling ripped off. I have no idea why you would charge so much when there is so much competition in the area who offer better prices and customer service. I felt so wronged by this place that I waited the last 3 months till after my stuff was all moved out and my account was closed before I wrote this review...and I had to call them a couple times for a move out request. Firstly, I submitted a move out request the night I moved out via online where it asked me to call the store and inform them as well. So I called the next day to let them know my unit was clean and lock free and the woman told me she would go check by the end of the day. According to the online instructions, an email would be sent to confirm everything was closed out and because I never got that, I called the day after that to check and they told me she didn’t do what she was supposed to and they would handle it by end of day. Finally got the email that night and have never felt so happy to be done with a business. This is hands down the worst storage experience I’ve ever had."
