"If I could give TJ Maxx a -500 review I would. I am an African American native of Birmingham, Alabama, and I came to South Carolina to celebrate my cousins birthday. While there I came to TJ Maxx to shop for a few things like I have done before many of times. When I was ready to try on my items, I asked the dressing room attendant if she could direct me to the restroom. The dressing room attendant stared in my face and did not respond, so I assumed that she didn’t hear me and I asked her again, she did not respond again. However, she did proceed to assist other Caucasian customers to the dressing room. I even heard a Caucasian customer ask her, “how many items can I take back to the dressing room?”, and she responded “however many you would like.” So after she responded to the customer I asked her again, “ma’am, could you please tell me where the restroom is?” And she continued to stare in my face and not respond. An African-American customer was coming out of the dressing room, and both of us looked at each other, and I asked her “Is there something wrong? Am I missing something?” And she shrugged her shoulders in a way that implied she just received that same treatment from her. I am mediately went to the front register and asked associate if I could speak with a supervisor or manager, and I told her my experience. She then proceeded to ask me if the incident happened back in the dressing room and I said yes, and I was alarmed because she identified where the incident took place!! Implying that this was not the first time that this had happened with this attendant!!! The associate said she would get her manager and her manager quickly came over to speak with me. I told her of the incident and I also mentioned that my racial profile experience is a reflection of TJ Maxx as a corporation and a brand. The supervisor stated that she agreed, and that she did not want this experience and associate to be a reflection of TJ Maxx. I followed her to the back and I asked the supervisor could she direct me to the restroom and she did. After leaving the restroom the dressing room attendant was still there, and she stared at me in a threatening way. I found the supervisor and she escorted me to the dressing room. When we got back there, I asked her why was the attendant still there and she said that she was waiting on me to come back to the dressing room to remove her. Once again, I mentioned that she will do this again if she remains employed and the next experience can potentially escalate. I’m highly disappointed and I’m offended that TJMaxx would employ anyone who racially profiles. I’ve financially contributed to TJMaxx’s success for years!!!! Never have I ever been disrespected and racially profiled at this level. I’ve learned if you want change, it starts with yourself. So no longer will I continue to financially fund TJMaxx to hire employees who racially profile. Period. I hope this is a lesson learned. It would be different if this was their first incident with this lady, however, they obviously had complaints before about her and yet she was still an employee there. Let that sink in. I left all of my items in the cart and left."
"I went to 2 different stores and I have been to both before and one has a lot more quality merchandise than the other and it’s a lot busier than the other one,the one by the mall off Woods Crossing Rd has more selection than the one in Cherry-dale , both are nice stores and I just expect more shoppers are in the one by the mall but the lines move fast , I love TJ Maxx !!"
"If it was possible to give 0 stars - that's what I would do. This store does not offer a positive customer experience of any kind. It is disappointing on so many levels. I will not be shopping here ever again."
"Pretty solid department store just like any others. Nothing really sticks out, but it is one of the better places to shop for affordable clothes and housewares. From what I've noticed it's not very plus size friendly, but the selections are cute if you're in a standard size range. I'm not, so i mainly stick to the accessories, and home decor. The employees are refreshingly human, I didn't get greeted at the door but i also didn't get pestered with questions. This is a good place to shop if you like being able to shop at your own pace."
"This is a bargain shoppers paradise. They have all the latest styles you could find but reasonably priced to keep a busy mom of 3 kids on budget. And can't forget the great fun toys and treats for our doggie who gets spoiled as well. Great designer fashions to keep up with the new trends that won't break your pockets! Of course this mom's favorite part is the great holiday decorations and you can never have too many coffee mugs!"
