Reviews of Botany Bay Heritage Preserve/Wildlife Management Area
"Beautiful area. Tide was in so we couldn't explore the beach. The driving tour was wonderful! Perfect day to be outside. Saw no wildlife except wading birds. In an area where the wildlife are always under threat of being killed, (huge hunting area), not surprised we didn't see any."
"Do. Not. Remove. Shells and other cool finds. Instead take a picture of them and then place them on the surrounding trees on the beach. The driving tour is informative and you might even spot an alligator! The half ish mile walk out to the beach is 100% woth it. Take lots and lots of pictures. Not something youd want miss. Remember, botany bay is closed on Tuesdays."
"I didn’t take a lot of pics this time as Ive been here before. The best time to go is during sunrise pr sunset - it will be less sunny and the area looks amazing. Please note that there are no restrooms in the area and the roads are rough. You can do the Botany Bay loop. Make sure you fill out the form at the Plantation entrance and leave one half of it at the booth. Display the other half on your car. This is the pass. Its free though. From the booth drive up and you will get to the beach parking lot in a mile or so. From the parking lot, its a short walk to the beach. The beach is super clean and pretty. Its miles of driftwood in either direction. There are so many shells, its illegal to pick any. Its an area susceptible to erosion, so make sure you don’t disturb anything. One you’re done with the beach you can continue the tour if you would like. There is a chart/map at the entry booth that explains all the locations."
"We visited in May, 2022. It is an awesome historical look at local life 200+ years ago vs modern attempts at preserving nature. There is a motor trail around the plantation and foot paths to awesome natural views, including a beach preserved in its natural beauty without improvements."
"What a special place! If you’re going to the beach, make sure you time your arrival with low tide. Unfortunately, the beach is eroding, so during high tide, there is nowhere to walk out there. During low tide, though, there are shells for days. The trees add a fun obstacle course to your beach walk and I love all the shells decorating the trees. The history of the place is fascinating and the scenery is gorgeous. Highly recommend."
