About the Business
Hunting Island State Park Campground, located on Saint Helena Island, South Carolina, is a popular destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. The campground offers 100 campsites with water and electrical hookups, shower and restroom facilities, beach walkways, and a playground. Visitors can enjoy five miles of pristine South Carolina beaches, thousands of acres of marsh and maritime forest, a saltwater lagoon, and ocean inlet.
As of April 1, 2024, Russ Point Landing will be temporarily closed to public use due to deteriorating road conditions, but will still be used by state park service personnel. The campground store has new hours, and the lighthouse gift shop is currently closed. However, a track chair is now available for visitors with mobility impairments, thanks to the Ford Bronco Wild Fund.
The historic Hunting Island lighthouse, built in 1859 and rebuilt in 1875 after being destroyed during the Civil War, is a must-see attraction at the park. While the lighthouse is currently closed for tours due to safety concerns, visitors can still view it from the grounds and receive information from docents.
Pets are not allowed in certain areas of the park, including the cabin area, pier, and lighthouse complex, to protect wildlife. Park hours are from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, with extended hours during Daylight Saving Time. Admission fees apply, with discounts for South Carolina seniors and children.
Hunting Island State Park is a gem in South Carolina, offering a diverse natural environment and plenty of recreational opportunities for visitors to enjoy.

"First trip to Hunting island state park campground. Nice cozy campground with friendly staff and very close to the beach. Within kinda long walking distance to the park with the lighthouse. You can walk using the beach or rugged trail thru the forest."
"Nice state park, too bad there are no bike trails, and it is far too dangerous to ride bikes on road. Not much to do since you're NOT allowed to take golf carts out of campground, nor are they allowed on the beach (Note: It is a small campground) Gift shop is nice, can walk to lighthouse via the beach, which is good because unless you have a car, you can't ride bike or golf cart to lighthouse. Great beach, nice place to relax and do nothing."
"From a family that camps often.... The lighthouse, nature viewing areas, and beach was nice. The campground was quiet but cramped. Sites were not level. The pictures online do not show some campsites so close it's uncomfortable. Things like only 2 ft pine trees between them. The road is narrow. You are given a map to show one way in and one way out. No trash cans on site or in bathrooms. You have to take your trash to a dumpster. Racoons there are nosey. They will get into anything (non-food) Shooing them doesn't help they are so used to being around people and stalking from the trees. Showers are dirty and weren't cleaned the whole time we were there. I would have completely left if I would have had the opportunity to get a full refund. Definitely not worth the money."
"I must warn you about the public restrooms and shower house. Dirty! Who ever cleans them doesn't. There is a 8 to 12 inch border of dirty floors around the border of each room and cubical. It looks like it has been accumulating since it's been built. Disgusting buildup of dirt on the grout. The rest of the amenities pulls my rating up from a 1 to a 3. This park is a good place to go enjoy the outdoors. Nice beach. I a specially like waking up in the morning on the beach and spending every day there."
