Reviews of Bannister Bridge Canoe Access
"Absolutely beautiful but not a very well taken care of kayak route. There are 3 downsides. First) The walk back to the landing is quite far and it takes a few trips so you start off getting sweaty. Second) you have to get out and go around several down trees covering the path. If you're ok with that it's worth it! Third) Caution!!! Make sure to stay on the path as it's very easy to get lost and you definitely don't want to get lost here. So many great opportunities to see wildlife of all sorts. We caught glimpses of owls, woodpeckers of all kinds, wild boar, deer and much more. Also didn't see anyone during the entire trip so it's very secluded compared to the part of the trip after South Ceder Creek. Just pay attention to the route, prepare to get out, bring good shoes, and get ready to get muddy! Overall I won't do it again but it was a fun opportunity to see something beautiful."
"This is a beautiful paddle thru Congaree Nat Pk. You will need to shuttle your vehicles down to the take out spot. There is no man made landing and you must be wary of the slippery mud banks. There is a parking lot for about 10 vehicles. Right now (Jan 2021)there are 2-3 muddy portages necessary, but it truly is a beautiful paddle. In the Summer you will be able to see more snakes and turtles, but remember your mosquito spray. No, there is no direct way to get here. No matter which direction you come, there are lots of county roads and turns. Just use Google Maps."
"Great hiking along the western edge of the Park. The landing is at the abutments of a very old bridge, with a few footings sticking up out of the creek. Then, we went to the remains of the boundary dike built in the 1840's to direct the Congaree. This seldom used trail runs into the River Trail and, so, the river. Lots to see, especially at the river."
"Great in theory: poor execution (likely due to low NPS funding for management). The canoe trail is blocked by downed trees to an extent that had a HUGE effect on travel time, especially if you have multiple and sizable craft. And honestly, this area isn't as pretty as it is near the South Cedar Creek Landing. If you do go, make sure you start EARLY and be prepared with layers/sustenance/first aid P.S. the drive for this point is NOT MARKED with any signage on the main highway. I tried to correct Google's address of Roger Myers Road, because that is a private driveway of a nice, but frustrated b resident. The map marker is correct, just don't turn on Roger Myers!"
