Gilligan's Seafood Restaurant-Johns Island

"I never tend to write reviews like this , but thought it was very important that people knew to avoid this restaurant if they are looking for fresh Charleston Seafood. Although the Service was wonderful the food here was bland to say the least. The She Crab Soup actually tasted like it was out of a can. Then my crab cake sandwich maybe had a teaspoon of crab in it, so disappointing. There are so many reasonable seafood restaurants out there. Gilligan's needs to step up their game. Go to the Crab Shack right up the road the food is wonderful and the prices are very reasonable.As far as their food goes again...not good. But in their defense they may have other options that taste better.The service was wonderful , but there was nobody in there , which should have been a small warning to us both."

"Good atmosphere. Decent selection of seafood. Large mixed drink menu. You know it's a legit seafood place when there is a bucket in the middle of the table for shells. Good spot for a seafood meal and/or post-work cocktail."

"Went here on a whim after passing it by many times thinking it would just be another generic fried seafood place and although they have fried seafood options I was dead wrong about writing them off. Several parties were coming and going when we arrived but that didn't at all hinder the prompt service we got. Some great specials along with local almost all you can eat oysters options. There was also some good live music last night so I'm assuming that's an every Saturday night thing. Started off with the oysters Rockefeller cause who doesn't love those. They were prepared differently than I was use to which was a nice change. Great presentation, lots of flavor and the bread was the perfect texture of crisp yet soft. Bloody Mary was on point, the bacon wrapped stuffed shrimp was a nice touch and it had a cool tangy flavor to it. Collard greens and fried okra were on point I would have enjoyed a little more seasoning but I understand you've got to cater to the masses but the greens were prepared with some turkey meat the right way. Winner of the dinner was the crabby patty with the remoulade. Damn! That thing was good! Happy we stopped in and will definitely be returning! They also have outside dining with heaters for the colder days. Cheers!"

"I wish they had smaller table settings for small parties besides booths and sitting on porch. I dined alone at a large round table for 4-6. I got the seafood platter, which is always great. Doubled up on red rice (taste better at Beaufort location), the hush puppies were delicious! Fast service, courteous and attentive wait staff. Nice clean restrooms too."

"Nathaniel was my server, he did a good job. I loved the atmosphere, very laid back and a nice look. The food was good, everything was quick. Wish I could have tried their impressive drink menu but I’m driving, will be back again with friends! Nice outdoor seating too!"
