"On May 18th at 8:48 am my business partner and I had a conversation with them and paid in full with a credit card for a homeowners policy on an investment property. When we ended the conversation, we understood from them that we were insured. Furthermore, the closing attorney’s office called the agent to verify before we could close. On September 27th, we noticed that we incurred some roof damage due to storms in the area. When we called to inquire about making a claim, we were told that the credit card had been declined; however nobody from the agents office had ever mentioned this or called to notify us. Also, the credit card company has confirmed that the card was never declined nor was a charge attempted. We were also told by the agent, that something was sent to us in the mail; however we have received nothing. Not a bill in mail, not an email, phone call or any correspondence whatsoever. After two weeks of trying to get answers, we were finally provided a copy of a "Notice of No Coverage" that was supposedly sent by the Insurance Company (Bankers Insurance Group). This notice was dated 6/12 which means nearly a month went by before any notice was given. We feel that this agency was negligent in the handling of the premium. We believe that if in fact a credit card declined, it would have been known at the point of sale and not weeks later. Furthermore, we believe that no steps were taken to ensure that they held up their end of the agreement. Not only could they have picked up the phone and given us a notice, there were additional opportunities when I called in to inquire about other policies. In fact, on September 19th we purchased another policy with them through Bankers Insurance for another property. During that time I had no idea about this. This would have been an opportunity to notify us but none was given. It was only when we needed to make a claim that we found out. We feel that their negligence has put us in harms way financially and has cost us approximately $10,000 in damages. Two roofing companies have confirmed roof damage and are recommending a replacement. The estimate is approximately $10,000. I have filled an official complaint with the department of insurance. The sad thing is that during this process, not once has anyone at this agency picked up the phone and called me to try to resolve it."
