"I've read the divisive reviews here, and based on our experience, there's truth to both sides, so I want to be thorough in my review. If all you care about is the bottom line, in the end, this is the kind of dentist for us. We have three children, elementary to high school, who have been here for pediatric dentistry and for orthodontics. The business appears to be a direct reflection of Dr. Utermark, herself: no-nonsense, efficient, kind, and professional but effective (and with a love of horses and Western style). 1) The waiting room is comfortable with a small play area and TV (usually on HGTV), but the atmosphere is calm and subdued and feels like a library more than a child-centered business, to include quick reprimands for children running / stomping or playing or talking at "normal" volumes (e.g., while out shopping or in a cafeteria). 2) The desk staff are polite and are very organized, but no, they do not play the role of a cheerful, placating, warm-welcome receptionist. They also do not typically chat with patients / parents or even each other. 3) They are not cheap. I think the services could be cheaper, but Dr. Utermark seems to strive for perfection, to include recommending options beyond our personal price comfort level for cosmetic adjustments. Yes, they're fine with military insurance, but Tricare dental coverage isn't as good as what most of us think. 4) Finally, they care about their patients. They are respectful, polite, and thorough, but they expect the same in return. When we moved about 2000 miles to Augusta, three other orthodontists told us we had to get the kids' braces removed by the original orthodontist before we could even make an appointment (which would then require new braces). Dr. Utermark was shocked when she heard. She had some new equipment but used what she could to reduce costs. She also identified an issue (obvious to us once pointed out) that her last orthodontist missed, nearly resulting in jaw surgery."
