Reviews
"The lighthouse itself is beautiful, sandy beach and nice area for fishing when the tides change. I am giving it 3 stars as the walk there is disgusting. People have vandalized the entire pathway. I appreciate art but when it is vandalized it is not art anymore. I am honestly disappointed the city allows it to continue to happen."
"Shambles of a structure. Oceanic wear and tear of the lighthouse, the sandbar, and the wildlife is evident. Watch the show Survivor? This place is like that show, just not as tropical and "glamourous". Getting to the area around or on Morris Island is tough...it is austere, wind blown, hot in the summer, and no fresh water anywhere. Great ecological area for terns and other saltwater estuary wildlife."
"Decommissioned in 1962, this is the tallest lighthouse in South Carolina. The only way to get here is by boat, at high tide. You can't go in it. It's a beautiful sight viewed from Folly Beach. TO GET THERE: Go to the very end of East Ashley, once the road ends, put a few dollars in the box provided, walk or ride your bike all the way to the end of the paved, graffiti roadway, then follow the sandy trail. Once here look for shark's teeth, the Inlet is a known tiger shark's nursery. DO NOT SWIM AT THIS BEACH. THE INLET CURRENTS ARE VERY STRONG AND UNPREDICTABLE even at low tide, and the Inlet is known as a tiger shark's nursery."
"Absolutely stunning! I've been visiting this area at the end of Folly Beach for many years, and it never gets old. There is parking along the side of the road. From the end of the driveable road, there is a short walk down a paved road, then across thick sand to the beach. The paved road has some really neat graffiti. Although the Lighthouse is a good ways out in the water, it can be seen quite easily. In the far distance, the splendor of the Ravenel Bridge adorns the landscape. The winds and the water and the waves change, but the old Lighthouse remains. At low tide, there's plenty of extra beach to explore and enjoy. At high tide, you still get a great view of the Lighthouse. The water in the channel is swift and treacherous, so swimming he is NOT permitted. Also, the is a small dead tree, gorgeous, driftwood, area. Sunrises hear are indescribable."
"Great old lighthouse located on a semi hidden stretch of beach. Lots of birds, sea turtle nesting sites, deadwood, and almost no people make this a great area. Take the little hike down the graffiti road and you're rewarded with great views, clear waters, and sand bars. I went on a Saturday and Folly Beach was packed but this area was open with almost no people."
