Reviews of Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site
"Colonial Dorchester State Park is worth a day trip! So much history and beautiful landscape - right on the river! The bell tower has so many original markings in the brick work and you can see wood used from hundreds of years ago. Beautiful place!"
"Neat little state park to visit that you can tell is very well kept. This isn't somewhere I could imagine spending hours upon hours at, but it's good for a quick visit. There's an easy trail to follow which has several signs up with short educational reads. $3 for an adult to get in which you pay via cash envelope at the entrance. There are picnic tables available and trash cans. Plenty of parking available, dog friendly (on a leash). Bring bug spray!"
"A fascinating little area that features a self-guided walking tour through the remains of this 18th century settlement. The location itself is quite scenic and peaceful, being located right along the river - I noticed many of the people there (it was by no means busy when I went on a Saturday) seemed to just be there to enjoy the nature. A very worthwhile stopover if you're interested in the area's history. There was no gate or park ranger, although visiting here does cost $3 per adult, paid on the honour system via drop envelope."
"What a great site, with a self guided walking tour available that explains the history along the various stops. It was $7 to take the whole family here which is quite reasonable. The tabby fort was amazing, as was the bell tower and graveyard. Just a great site to spend the afternoon exploring. Pack a picnic lunch; there are tables and facilities here, and ample parking. Very interesting history and a "must see" if you live in the area."
"Great historical park to learn and spend a couple of hours! Plenty of interesting things to see and plaques to read. Nice area to bring a picnic. Dog friendly and fun for kids. Plenty of parking. Lots of grass to roam and sprawl out (and socially distance as needed)."
