Reviews of Fort Sumter Visitor Education Center
"This is a wonderful location. Unfortunately the tour experience was terrible. Especially bad because we had a baby with us. We felt rushed from the very moment we arrived. The ferry boat had a horrible smell and the bathrooms were disgustingly dirty. The snacks were expensive. The museum was crowded bc it is so tiny. No bathrooms on the island at all. As a former resident of South Carolina, I felt embarrassed."
"Foggy day for the ferry but no rain or wind which enabled us to tour the site without issues related to weather. National park personnel were friendly and informative."
"A great experience!! I wish the ferry options allowed for a longer visit, as it did feel rushed. You get about an hour to explore, however I would have probably wanted 2 hours to really immerse myself and read all the history. Also, the ferry will cost you $30+ per person just as a heads up."
"What an incredibly humbling experience it is to reflect on the past. I can't help but imagine the profound emotions that must have coursed through the hearts of the Union soldiers, standing united against the formidable might of an entire State like South Carolina. And as the war drew to a close, I'm filled with an overwhelming sense of empathy for the Confederate soldiers. Regardless of their actions over the years, one can only attempt to fathom the complex emotions they carried. In this moment, it becomes undeniably clear that we, as a society, must transcend the divides of Confederate, Union, Republican, Democrat, and any other label. Urgency envelops us, urging us to come together, to unite, and to truly learn from our shared history. We need to learn to put God First above all worldly labels because at the closing hour of our life, that’s all that we’re going to have."
"Hellooo!!! Visiting from Miami Beach, we spent a full day in charleston. Fort sumter was the only attraction we visited. In order to go there you need to stop by here first. We bought the tickets online so we didnt need nothing else but taking the ferry to the fort, about 30 mins on board. In this visitor center there are restrooms and a gift shop!!!!"
