Reviews of Stephens County Sheriff
"The sherriff that came out to my house for a visitation dispute didn't even know the law. When I asked questions I didn't receive answers the cops were smart mouthed and had and attitude and responded with I can tell you section code whatever but never answered my question. Then lied. I am very disappointed with the quality of justice they provided. None."
"Rude and unprofessional. The officer yelled at my teenager for stopping 5 feet from the officer in the other lane when his lights came on. he reversed to speak to him and the officer threatened him with a ticket (he was taking a picture of the sunset at curahee) and when he said he would turn around and leave the officer said he could throw him in jail. Instead of de-escalating he angrily did the opposite. we are lucky we have representation. This officer gives police the reputation they have in this country. Even Philly cops (where I am from) treat the community with dignity. Thanks for ruining my trip to visit my son at college. he bullied a teenager and when I tried to explain, because my son was quiet and nervous he yelled and insulted me. We left without a ticket, but I wish he had taken me to jail, because that was an empty threat and we didnt break any laws. I am notifying the board and superintendent of Toccoa falls college and filing a complaint from all 4 people who are witnesses and our lawyer. if that doesnt go anywhere I will go to the media. I asked for officer complaint forms."
"I would strongly encourage you to fully consider educating your staff more regarding pulling over citizens. As an African American female, not from the area, I have every right to drive closer in town, for safety and accountability purposes, instead of being indirectly threatened by continued police sirens and lights. I was pulled over and ticketed yesterday for "failing to move over." Hmmm...so the 2 vehicles ahead of me, you didn't see them? How did you have time to write the other citizens ticket and manage to clock me. Oh wait, I wasn't speeding. No warning, no education, immediate abruptness. The feeling is mutual. I knew immediately your Sgt. was ready to make a scene any exert any perceived power he thinks he had. I told him upon approaching my vehicle I felt unsafe and he was being recorded. He retorted you as well. We all know considering the current racial climate, your bodycams are exactly that. Yours-it can be edited. He hands propped in my vehicle, I asked him to back up. I know firsthand how corrupt some, not all, police officers can be. He refused to even engage in a healthy dialogue, I became frustrated and wanted to continue on my journey home. I will NEVER spend another dime at any of this county's gas stations or restaurants. I also shared my experience with friends and family. Imagine how many other people have had the same experience. Beware and stay far away from this area. Your office needs cultural diversity training. I heard Dispatch, I wasn't alluding anything, I was commuting to safe visible space to further ensure my safety. In a rural town in Georgia, with a predominantly white police staff, the odds of Justice are not in my favor."
"I called city of Toccoa thinking they would help me get inside my locked house and I understand it was not a emergency but what’s the difference between helping me get into my locked car rather then my locked house but the lady today working in dispatch was very rude and hung up on me the first time called back and she told me to go online a find a locksmith number. y’all expect people to call when they are in need of help but have the wrong people working there. I was very disappointed in how she handle the situation I’ve been living here my whole life and didn’t expect to me let down by my own community dispatch until now come on y’all do better."
"Good & helpful folks all."
