Reviews of ESCO PHARMACY
"I had used Esco Pharmacy for a couple of years but in the last few months ran into several problems of not having the medication ready on time, despite being a regularly recurring refill. When intending to pick up the latest refill, they advised me that it was not in stock, and after bouncing the prescription around other places to find somewhere to fill it, checking in with Esco, they told me that it WAS in stock, so I had the prescription sent back there, and when trying to pick it up was told it was still out of stock. It’s amazing to me that there’s zero accountability for not having accurate information, or giving false information. This may not be a problem exclusive to Esco, but I was disappointed in their staff in this instance."
"Thankful for these guys. Flew into NYC and was looking for pepper spray for my hike and they came through. Smooth process, friendly service."
"Update, followed by my old review. I used to love Esco. I felt they knew me, that they would investigate any kinks in coverage for prescriptions etc. However this seems no longer to be the case. I recently went in for a refill on a medication I’ve been on for years. They told me coverage was denied. They had no explanation. Almost an hour later, after calling my insurance company to investigate, I called the pharmacy back to let them know that they had sought coverage for the medication from the wrong source. Their excuse was that they were changing systems. There was no effort to investigate and remedy the problem from their end. Again, for years I have felt like Esco treated me like a regular, which I am. This is really no longer the case — and this is not an isolated example. The pharmacy could have investigated this for me—which is what they would have done when I first began using them as my pharmacy some seven years ago, instead of shrugging it off and telling me to call my insurance company, leaving me to wait on hold for almost an hour myself, when it was their error. I am seriously considering switching pharmacies. You may now read my old review. But honestly, they are not the pharmacy they used to be. My old review: This is a fine, family-owned and -operated pharmacy that’s been in the area for ages. The Esco people are friendly, efficient, considerate and honest. And they always do their best to help you deal with challenges, including those related to insurance coverage. Do your business here! Shop local and help preserve NYC’s neighborhood character."
"Under stocked, unprofessional and incompetent. If you find this place through GoodRX don’t bother. They don’t honor it. I found this place through the app and figured why not because I pass it all the time in my neighborhood. I even called ahead of time to ask if they had my prescription. When I got there the staff didn’t know what I was talking about, didn’t have my script ready and didn’t know what price to charge me. The original script was supposed to be $3. Then the associate told me they didn’t accept GoodRX which makes no sense since that’s how I scheduled my script and tells me the price is $10. Then at checkout it comes out to $15 before taxes because she didn’t tell me the correct price the first time..All for a $3 script. The counter is so small they’re handling guests out of a singular window which wouldn’t matter if the other guest hadn’t grabbed my script thinking it was theirs. I’m all for small businesses but this was a mess. I’m already not feeling well and don’t want to be outside. Let alone deal with this."
"Came here in a pinch on 4th of July because my one year old had spent time in the ER for a cough that was so bad he was puking and a high spiking fever. He desperately needed his antibiotics and ibuprofen. Baby has had the same insurance card since he was born, there’s a typo on his birthdate. This has never been a problem at the Duane Reade up the block, or any CVS or Rite Aid in the city. I have even filled prescriptions at a similar mom and pop type pharmacy in Brooklyn. These people are the first to give me issues, and refused to give my son his medicine unless I called the insurance company (ON A HOLIDAY WHEN THEY ARE CLOSED). These people are so evil. Especially the Indian girl working in the front and the Asian pharmacist in the back. No sympathy or humanity for a suffering baby. The customer service is just disgusting, not to mention the store is not well kept at all. I would never return here or give them any business. The next day, I had the prescription filled at Duane Reade with the same insurance in less than 5 mins. I’m all for supporting small business but the disgusting attitudes and customer service is the reason why places like these are being run into the ground and why so many people turn to bigger corporations for more reliable care."
