Reviews of Oatland Island Wildlife Center
"This is a really nice place to take a stroll. The habitats and trails were all very well maintained. The welcome center was large and the staff were nice and knowledgeable. The day we went it was quite chilly, the only thing we didn’t get a glimpse of was the alligators. For only $5 there is a lot to see."
"This is a really nice place to take the kids and have a nice walk. My expectations were exceeded and this was our first time there. The habitats and trails were all very well maintained. The welcome center was very nice and the person at the front desk was knowledgeable and nice. I would recommend this place to anyone who's looking for something to do for the morning. I saw several people with strollers too, so I think it's great for all ages."
"This place is a gem, some fine work is being done here by some great folks. We traveled from western Canada and made the stop. Lots of animals to see, full loaded gift shop, tons of signs with information about where the animals came from. Allot of love has gone into this place. The staff were great. One in particular who was managing the desk inside the building was gracious and showed us a baby Alligator. My wife was in absolute awe. She is a lover of all animals and it meant the world to her and I. We will be making a donation to this and anyone one who visits should consider the same as the entry fee in my opinion is beyond reasonable. I understand it's intent is education and conservation but it could be our to use for some facilities maintenance. We will be back for sure. It's a must do on a visit to Savannah."
"My family and I have visited twice and we love it. The staff hace been welcoming and knowledgeable. My son loves looking at all the animals and having free space to run, play, and explore. Multiple spots to sit and eat too. Bringing a sack lunch is recommended. It's a beautiful trail with animals and beautiful scenery to see during the walk."
"Every few months my two best friends and I meet to share a weekend. We did some really fun stuff in Savannah. I was prepared for the Wildlife Center to be a sort of sad place with rescued but unhappy animals. Nope! I was impressed the minute we drove up. The building and grounds are just lovely; the building itself has a cool history, built as a retirement facility by the railroad union for their members. The animals were very well cared for; the snakes were just gorgeous, and the staff were friendly and quite helpful. The variety of animals was impressive; the walks were beautiful and manageable even for folks with disabilities. It seemed there were places for the animals to be away from people or be out close and interact with people. It’s almost always hard to see animals in captivity, but since these creatures were rescued and can’t be released, we were all glad to see they were so well cared for. You’ll see bison, wolves, panthers, bobcats, the aforementioned snakes, many fowl, possums, alligators and more. We had a terrific of time. Did I say admission is only $5? Check it you!"
