1906 Pine Crest Inn

"The staff was very nice, but the place desperately lacked maintenance TLC. It’s a B and B with no breakfast! Bed was comfortable, room was clean, but the place was so-so. I’m sure back in its day, it was gorgeous! We were given a discount for breakfast, and their coffee was delicious! We were told they were between owners. We would have been better at a hotel with breakfast, for what we spent."

"Recent 4 day stay. Would have left after day one but they had our money. Their website is TOTALLY BOGUS - no breakfast, restaurant, etc. Room was musty. Bait and switch breakfast was cold cereal and stale mini-rolls, not the advertised 'full buffet'. Thermostat did not work - when on, it heated room to 85 degrees despite being set at 70. Floor slanted in every possible direction. Ceiling tiles over bed about to fall - I have photos! Our outrage was shared by a 'customer' who laid into the front desk clerk as we grabbed granola bars from the 'buffet'. Owner did reduce daily bill by $30/day after we complained about breakfast situation. On the upside, I see it as a good place to film a retro 1906 horror movie."

"Awful. It was sad to revisit this place after 20 years and see how dilapidated the current owners have allowed it to become. The website should be taken down because it’s false advertising. No restaurant. No bar. I’d made a reservation for dinner thinking the restaurant still existed and no one responded; thank goodness my friends couldn’t make it. Musty rooms. Broken toilet seat. Laughable breakfast offerings of sugary cereal in boxes from a discount store. Run down lawn and gardens. No wifi. Let’s hope new people buy it soon and restore it to the wonderful place it used to be. Until then, don’t waste your money. What a loss to Tryon."

"Stayed at Pine Crest 15 years ago and was very happy. That said, I should have read the most recent reviews before booking for three nights last week. Overpriced for such an old rundown inn. King room was definitely disappointing. Lesson learned: read reviews before booking"

"This B&B is a shell of its former self. We stayed here regularly in the 80s and 90s. Sadly, it has not been kept up since then. The property is overgrown, outdated, and shows a lack of care. There was a lovely innkeeper there the morning after we checked in (who is not the owner and just works there), but it is not worth the extremely high price tag. Like other guests have said, we were the only guests that night. It very much looks abandoned and very neglected."
