Reviews of Consulate General of Bangladesh
"The facility is outdated, but the employees are all professional and well-mannered. Like any other government facility, it is busy, and you have to wait around, but they are very efficient. The pick-up time is 3:30, and everyone who dropped off their passport in the morning got their passports within minutes (you have to drop off your passport before 1:00). I would recommend that they update their website since they don't have all the correct forms and information. I printed out the forms for DC and not New York since that's the only one on the website, but they had the right ones for me to fill out. Everyone should call beforehand to make sure they have the right documents, and you should show the receptionist your forms to make sure you have the right ones, in case you need to fill out a different form while you wait. Also, don't forget to get a money order or bank certified check since they don't accept cash."
"I recently visited the Bangladesh Consulate in New York. I had called ahead to make sure I was prepared, and while the lady on the phone was a tad sassy aunty, she provided the necessary details. Their website, though, feels like it's stuck in the age of dialup. I guess someone forgot to CC consulate website during “Digital Bangladesh” planning. I made it to the consulate at 1:25 pm. The security greeted me as though I was racing against the clock for the last ferry at Sadarghat. I felt like I was playing a real life game of Who Wants to Get a Visa Today with him. Finally got in, printed ticket for my queue and waited until Uncle at Counter #2 called my number and played "Find the Missing Document" with me. He ignores my wife’s application and stamps my and tosses the it back to me. I asked him what’s wrong he said no birth certificate. I told him, no I used this to renew last time, then he says no we don’t take that anymore. At least explain to me how I can resolve this issue instead “NO” “YES”. Uncle then point at the wall where he says everything is written on what I need. Memo to the consulate: Some of us spent more time with “Sesame Street” than “Sisimpur” so English notices would be appreciated on the wall. Anyways, as I waited, I couldn't help but notice that the uncle vibes were strong that day. The "How can I NOT help you today?" attitude seemed to be on full display, not just for me, but for others as well. Overall, the experience felt a bit challenging. While I acknowledge some responsibility on my end, clearer communication from the consulate would help immensely. It would be beneficial for the consulate to update its procedures and perhaps improve its customer service training. SHAME ON THESE WORKERS."
"It was really hard to find this place as there was no clear visible sign of the official Bangladesh business place in front of the building. As it is inside another office space, you will need to locate a small door at the right corner of the building. After passing the lame security checkpoint, you'll finally see the front desk of this office. Often, that desk will be empty, and there will be groups and crowds around. This place doesn't represent an official business place of the Bangladesh government as it should be. There is no system in place to keep the visitors well informed. You will need to have your whole day reserved to do anything done here. Also, the so-called officers are more eager to show your mistakes instead of helping you out with empathy and care."
"As a public service office it's not a 5star level office and they are working like they work for work. Lack of personality and professionalism. They don't have time to greet people in front of windows. They don't even say hi, hello, h r u even if you say Hello, they will not reply. They're serving the people without smiling face. Restroom was flooded with dirty water, looking very nasty. Hand dryer also wasn't working and instead no napkin over there. Finding Car parking is so hard too. Anyway you need your work needs to be done so one day this experience is worthy because you're not going there everyday. Take it easy. :)"
