Reviews of The Academy Building Lofts
"I lived in the building for a year and recently moved out. Rashad, the building manager, is wonderful and keeps the building in top shape and is very quick to repair anything. I signed my lease with the old landlord George and he was wonderful, the new landlord Artour is hard to get a hold of and I am not sure he has even been to visit the building. I am not saying this should stray you from renting here I just want to make others aware he is challenging to reach. I already miss living in this beautiful building! Also- the Founders Cafe is AMAZING an absolute treat to have right in the building."
"The building may be nice, but the management is unreliable and the landlord is dishonest and goes back on his word. My review may not be the same as the other reviews, but I know other people have experienced a similar situation as mine. After saying he would refund the security deposit if they find another tenant within a month, he lied and went back on his word many times. After that, he said we are liable for the whole lease and security deposit, then began to say they’ll refund a portion of the security deposit that hasn’t been used. At the end, he pretended like it all never happened and just decided to not follow through with anything he said he would do. He is inconsistent and will do whatever to get money from you (as most scummy landlords without morals do). Very unprofessional, and I could not believe he had the audacity to mention we have to email him an “official” notice when we provided two written notices already and he did not mention the email until very later on. Funnily, he doesn’t even provide his information or the email address anywhere, so I had to track his information down to find his name. His name is Arthur Drozd, and he took a previous tenant to court for eviction yet lost if you look it up. Additionally, the lease you have to sign is so vague and incoherent. My first red flag should’ve been that another tenant took them to court and won to have the lease edited with an addendum due to how awfully worded it is. I have screenshots of all the messages as evidence, so this property cannot reply back to my review and claim no such thing happened because that would be a lie. I will post it within this review if they reply. If you want to live in a historical building, go ahead, but if you want to have an ethical landlord, run away from this place."
"I lived at the Academy Building Lofts for a year and my stay was nothing less than pleasant. The building is always clean and aesthetically pleasing. All of my concerns were addressed professionally and in a timely manner and there were times when Rashad went above and beyond. The Founders Cafe in the building was certainly an added bonus (turned out to be one of my guilty pleasures)--some days didn't have to go out for breakfast or lunch it was convenient and delicious. If you are considering The Academy Building, look and consider no longer."
"The Academy Building is an excellent place to live. I lived in a beautiful one bedroom unit for two years before I had to move recently for work, and I never had any negative experiences. Both the owner George and the building manager Rashad are very attentive, helpful, and communicative. In my time at the Academy, I saw the rent increase by $40/month one year and then by $110 the next. To be fair though, it seems this is typical for the market right now, and you do honestly get what you pay for here!"
"The Academy building is not only gorgeous, but a great place to live! It’s close to everything and the street is quiet. The property is always very clean and well maintained. The high ceilings and huge windows make an impression on anyone who visits. The space feels uplifting even on a gloomy Rochester day! It has all the conveniences you need, like laundry in your own space and off street parking. I’ve enjoyed urban loft living before but there is no place that compares to the Academy building!"
