H&R Block

"The worst experience I have had. I got charged 310$. I wanted a direct deposit but I got issued a check. HR block misspelled my name on my return so my check didn't have my correct name on it either. They did not mark me as a NY resident and also didn't factor in some documents I sent in. I got an audit for a couple thousand dollars from the IRS. Luckily I thought I had "peace of mind insurance" but again HR block forgot to add that on. When they ask for documents you can send it online, when they ask for the IRS audit letter you have to make an appointment and go in person (which is hard because their hours conflict with mine and most people's work schedule). Also when I caught on to some of the errors I messaged the accountant through the HR block app and he just ignore me."

"Even though I waited an hour for my appointment and was unhappy with my initial tax consultant, Theodore (a consultant my friend had told me about) convinced me to stay when I was unhappy and about to leave. He prepared my taxes and did a thorough walk through with me and was very charming and pleasant to work with. Above all, he got me a bigger return than I initially thought I would receive. The experience he gave me from beginning to end has led me to not only want to be a return customer, but to highly recommend him and H&R BLOCK to others."

"This was my first time filing my taxes in person, as I’ve typically filed them myself through H&R Block’s online program. This is also definitely my last time, and I will be warning friends and family to steer clear from H&R Block. Their pricing is not transparent- I was not told ahead of time that inputting the information from my student loan interest form would be an additional cost. The tax analyst herself said I would not receive any benefit, yet failed to mention that entering the one number from the form would cost an extra $150. I also booked an appointment for 3:45, wasn’t seen until around 4:20, and the analyst left her desk mid-filing for about 20 minutes to help another customer. The office manager said she would follow up with the district manager about my experience about 2 weeks ago, but I haven’t heard anything from them since. I would recommend seeing a standalone professional tax expert- you will receive better bang for your buck and your time will be more valued."
