"If there were 10 stars, I'd color them all in. This was my second year doing my return with Carol and her team and this year was better than last year. Prompt, friendly, professional, attentive and I had very little to do. They followed up on all the details every step of the way. I highly recommend the firm."
"As a small business client, we are very pleased with the attentiveness and professionalism delivered on a consistent basis from the staff and principal CPA, Carol McCrae. The recent changes they've made to improve on the responsiveness and efficiency has dramatically impacted the financial positon of our business in a positive way. In a city saturated with cleaning businesses, its still nice to receive personalized accounting services. It's also a plus that we're neighbors!"
"I've been getting my returns done here since 2014. The ladies are friendly and welcoming, and always go the extra mile for me and my family."
"We were recommended C.A.MCCRAE CPA buy a business colleague, and in 2014/2015 we decided to engage them as our accountant/bookkeepers. Being new small business owners we were initially forgiving and understanding of the inept advice, delayed communication, and subpar accountability from Carol and her team. However, we were astounded and caught off guard when we began receiving penalty notices from the IRS. We immediately engaged another CPA to investigate the matter and, in early 2017 during tax preparation season, we found our business in complete financial/accounting disarray. We have spent over $5,000 in consulting/legal/accounting costs in order to correct and restate our records with the federal and local governments. Below are just a few of the embarrassing and unacceptable experiences we endured as a result of the extremely poor service of Carol and her firm: 1. For 2014, a tax return was filed. We were advised by C.A.MCCRAE CPA that we were an S Corporation and the firm provided us with K1 documents each year. Indicating this. However, during 2016 tax prep in early 2017, another CPA discovered that our business has been filed as a C Corporation – not an S Corporation as C.A.MCCRAE CPA had advised and had provided documentation to us for the S Corporation filing. a. Our Solution: We had to draft a written S Corporation relief letter to have this changed. The IRS has finally accepted it and changed the 2014 C Corporation Tax Return to an S Corporation, retrospectively. 2. For 2015, per the IRS agent, there was NEVER a 2015 tax return filed for PHCF Inc. The only thing the IRS found filed for 2015 was an extension to extend filing deadline to 9/15/16, which by the time we caught it was ridiculously overdue. This was further complicated as we were sent filed documents for 2015 as well as K1 documents to file for our personal tax returns. a. Our Solution: We needed to rush file the 2015 tax returns, both business and personal, but could only be done once we remedied the initial S vs C Corp filing issue. 3. C.A.MCCRAE CPA also incorrectly advised and reported our business contracting costs vs owner salaries resulting in an audit from the Department of Labor in regards to Worker's Comp requirements/taxes. a. Our Solution: We had to write a letter to stating that you guys have reviewed and met all the workers comp conditions for the contractors we have hired. We are still in process of validating our designation of "independent" contractors for some of our employees to get relief from the penalty. The above experiences were the most costly highlights of our experience with C.A.MCCRAE CPA. There were also numerous examples of just general poor accountability and communication by this firm. We paid C.A.MCCRAE CPA $1,000 each year for tax preparation and advice, as well as additional cost of bookkeeping and personal tax preparation. This letter is intended to help others avoid the horrendous advisory and customer services by C.A.MCCRAE CPA, as this was destructive to our ability to get funding/financing for our expansion in 2017 and caused a significant delay in filing our 2016 business and personal federal/state/city tax returns. If you care about your business and want to receive good accounting related advisory services, please avoid C.A.MCCRAE CPA at all costs."
