"It was by pure chance that I connected with Paul at John Whigham, Inc. I had received a cold call from their handyman and I questioned about replacing my gutters. While he didn’t do them, he could arrange for an estimate from the home improvement part of the business. Andy provided the estimate and a few days later the crew came to start pulling the gutters down. Paul then came to check the work and in a short while, I was looking at his phone camera with pictures of the crack in my chimney, the deteriorating roof and poor condition of my old vinyl siding ( with some rotten wood as proof!) Not what I expected of course but this house I grew up in had not been updated in 25-30 years! I added new windows and ohh! and while you’re at it I’ve always wanted to upgrade the kitchen and would love to have a window seat in the dining room and.... the list kept growing. ( new full bath where it was once only toilet and utility sink; new laundry room in basement; waterproofing of basement; painting all rooms; upgrading electrical; Nicoblock driveway, front steps and patio) Why? I found Paul to be caring and thorough- I trusted his choices and his crew seems to be choreographed with each person knowing their part. And supply chain issues? Not a problem as Paul always seemed to have a connection to some service or supplier. My neighbors on either side were equally impressed and also had roofing siding and chimney work done in a timely manor."
"John Whigham company came when they said they would and cleaned up very well. The work, roofing for my home and garage, replacing the shingles on the front of the house plus some minor pointing work on the front porch and walkway, was done quickly. Though one of the shingles fell off about a month later (the shingles on the front dormer) they came quickly and reinstalled it properly. So, why the poor review? 5 years after the job was done I had a leak in my kitchen. I've had 5 professional roof installers come and all of them stated that the work done around the rear dormer was improper. They all independently stated that the flashing was done improperly, that is, the step flashing was never changed and there was no ice flashing installed and this resulted in a leak. Worse, the labor guarantee was for ONLY ONE YEAR which is abysmal when compared to the industry standard of 5 to 10 years. He refused to fix the problem and so now the entire rear roof has to be removed and redone. Additionally, though I should have done more homework at the time to compare prices, he overcharged based on my subsequent researching, by almost $7,000 and this was confirmed by other roofers who were subsequently asked for an estimate. He is always trying to upsell, a minor criticism, but it can be very annoying as I get the feeling that he's more interested in making a buck than doing the work. Based on his warranty alone I never should have contracted with John Whigham and I don't think anyone should."
"I should have written this review last year (Spring 2017) when John's crew did the work but the business of life got in the way. John's crew did an EXCELLENT job of waterproofing our basement. They dug dry wells in the back and front of our house and you'd never know it over a year later. The basement is completely dry and we have had absolutely no problems. They also laid GORGEOUS pavers in our back yard. The money is definitely worth it. Their crews are professional, courteous, and extremely competent."
"I hired John Whigham to remodel my kitchen, dining room, and bathroom. Although my contractor helped rectify the issues I had during the project, there were SO MANY issues... from a leaking toilet they installed, and a horrible paint job, to a destructive flooring crew that broke my storm door and damaged the walls. Ultimately, 1 month after the project was completed, a drain pipe (installed by one of their unlicensed plumbers) under my kitchen sink, detached, flooding my cabinets and kitchen floor. The company uses mostly subcontractors that don't accept accountability for their work, nor communicate well with the other crews, while unprofessionally maligning John Whigham to me, the homeowner. Many times, I was left to orchestrate responsibilities due to the lack of communication between crews, which is not my job. At this point, I would not let the John Whigham'Home Improvement company near my house again."
"I had flooding in my basement and John and his men did a great job of waterproofing and repairing cracks along my basement walls. I live where there is always a lot of flooding and can say that I have had no problems in the past 5 months with dampness nor water in my basement. Just last week I had John come back to put a brick patio in my backyard and again his men did a wonderful job. They were in and out in 3 days. The men were polite and repectful to me and my neighbors. I would recommend calling them for whatever your needs would be. John, thank you for a job well done !!!"
